Job Summary:

The Dock Worker / Forklift Operator is responsible for the accurate and efficient loading, unloading, and staging of freight while ensuring the safe operation of equipment and adherence to company policies and safety regulations.

Education & Certification Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Continuing education in the transportation industry is an asset.
  • Forklift certification is required.

Skills & Abilities:

  • Fully proficient in operating a counterbalance propane (5,000 lbs) forklift safely and efficiently.
  • Ability to read, write, and understand English.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work professionally within a team.
  • Ability to follow instructions and provide feedback on the APPS dock operation process.

Experience:

  • Minimum three (3) years of experience working in a cross-dock environment with a trucking company similar to APPS Transport Group.
  • Hands-on experience in loading and unloading trucks using a forklift.

Physical Requirements:

  • Physically fit and capable of sitting, bending, standing, and lifting up to 75 lbs.
  • Able to work in extreme weather conditions with extended periods of standing and walking on the dock.

Mental & Production Expectations:

  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight loading and unloading schedules.
  • Must be able to meet productivity targets while maintaining safety standards.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Work under the supervision of the Dock Supervisor to coordinate trailer and freight movement.
  • Load and unload trucks and trailers using a forklift safely and efficiently.
  • Ensure freight is properly secured for transport and safe unloading at the consignee's location.
  • Maintain a safe work environment by following safety protocols and participating in training sessions.
  • Track and document freight movement to ensure accuracy in loading and unloading.
  • Report all Over, Short & Damaged (OS&D) freight concerns in accordance with company procedures.
  • Complete and submit a daily dock check sheet to ensure compliance with operational standards.
