Carpet and Duct Cleaner Job Description & ResponsibilitiesJob Summary:

A Carpet and Duct Cleaner is responsible for cleaning, maintaining, and sanitizing carpets, rugs, upholstery, air ducts, and ventilation systems in residential and commercial settings. The role requires strict adherence to safety protocols, customer service, and the proper use of cleaning equipment and chemicals.

Key Responsibilities:

Safety First

  • Follow all OSHA safety regulations and company safety policies
  • Wear proper personal protective equipment (PPE) (gloves, masks, goggles, etc.)
  • Ensure proper ventilation when using chemicals
  • Handle cleaning agents and equipment according to safety guidelines
  • Identify and mitigate hazards such as mold, dust, and airborne contaminants

Carpet & Upholstery Cleaning

  • Inspect carpets, rugs, and upholstery to determine cleaning needs
  • Operate professional carpet cleaning equipment, including steam cleaners and extractors
  • Apply appropriate cleaning solutions based on fabric type and customer requirements
  • Remove stains, odors, and allergens using industry-approved techniques
  • Ensure carpets and upholstery are dried properly to prevent mold growth

Air Duct & Ventilation System Cleaning

  • Inspect HVAC systems, ductwork, and vents for dirt, debris, and contamination
  • Use specialized equipment such as vacuums, brushes, and air whips to remove buildup
  • Apply sanitizing and deodorizing treatments as needed
  • Seal and reassemble duct components after cleaning
  • Ensure improved air quality and HVAC system efficiency

Customer Service & Communication

  • Provide professional and courteous service to customers
  • Explain the cleaning process and answer customer questions
  • Offer recommendations for ongoing maintenance and air quality improvement
  • Document work completed and obtain customer approval/signatures

Equipment & Maintenance

  • Properly operate and maintain cleaning equipment
  • Perform routine checks on hoses, vacuums, and other tools for safe operation
  • Keep vehicles and tools clean and organized
  • Report any equipment issues or safety concerns to management

Other Duties

  • Follow scheduled appointments and meet job completion deadlines
  • Adhere to company policies and industry best practices
  • Participate in training and certification programs as required

Qualifications

  • Proven experience in cleaning, particularly in carpet and ductwork maintenance
  • Proficient in the use of hand and power tools
  • Strong background in commercial cleaning and facilities maintenance
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills
  • Ability to manage time effectively and handle heavy lifting
  • Previous custodial experience is a plus

Job Types: Casual, Seasonal

Contract length: 3 months

Pay: $18.00-$22.00 per hour

Expected hours: 20 – 40 per week

Ability to commute/relocate:

  • Fort St. John, BC V1J 5Z4: reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work (preferred)

Experience:

  • Carpet/Duct cleaning: 1 year (preferred)

Licence/Certification:

  • Class 5 Licence (preferred)

Willingness to travel:

  • 100% (preferred)
