The Opportunity
Are you driven to solve the toughest challenges in solar technology? Do you dream of accelerating the global clean energy transition by unlocking breakthroughs in performance and durability? Join us at Rayleigh Solar Tech as the Director of Stability and Reliability, where you'll lead one of the most critical teams shaping the future of next-generation perovskite solar modules.
At Rayleigh, we're building the lowest-cost source of clean electrons on the planet. Backed by world-class investors and a powerhouse technical team, we're pushing the limits of deep tech to make solar radically more accessible. Our culture thrives on curiosity, urgency, and the pursuit of excellence-and we're looking for someone who shares that fire.
In this role, you'll lead a multidisciplinary team of scientists, engineers, and data experts to improve device lifetime, environmental robustness, and field performance. From defining accelerated testing protocols to leveraging AI for predictive failure modeling, you'll drive the insights that shape how our technology performs in the real world. Your work won't just measure success-it will define it.
If you're a strategic thinker with deep technical chops, a passion for experimentation, and a bold vision for how AI and data can transform materials science, we want to work with you.
What you'll do
Responsibilities
In this role, you'll lead a multidisciplinary team of scientists, engineers, and data experts to improve device lifetime, environmental robustness, and field performance. From defining accelerated testing protocols to leveraging AI for predictive failure modeling, you'll drive the insights that shape how our technology performs in the real world. Your work won't just measure success-it will define it.
- Lead with Vision: Own and drive Rayleigh's end-to-end strategy for perovskite solar stability and reliability-spanning lab, fab, and field.
- Build the Dream Team: Grow and mentor a multidisciplinary squad across reliability testing, degradation analysis, and AI/data science.
- Push the Standards: Design and implement advanced accelerated aging protocols (IEC 61215, ISOS) to test devices under extreme real-world stress.
- Explore Failure Pathways: Use state-of-the-art tools (e.g., Arkeo, TOF-SIMS, GIWAXS, FTIR, SEM, impedance spectroscopy) to uncover what breaks and why.
- Make Data Work Harder: Build AI-driven pipelines that predict long-term performance, correlate failure modes, and unlock faster, smarter development cycles.
- Collaborate Deeply: Partner with fabrication, design, and scale-up teams to translate reliability insights directly into device improvements.
- Shape the Field: Engage with external R&D partners, AI research groups, and third-party labs to stay on the cutting edge-and pull it forward.
What Success Looks Like
- New baseline devices validated under full reliability testing protocols
- Tangible improvements in degradation rates under accelerated and standard conditions
- Critical failure modes identified and resolved within target timelines
- AI tools accelerating analysis cycles and improving prediction accuracy
- Regular integration of stability insights into design decisions across teams
