What you will do:

  • Provides strategic human resources and labour relations assistance in real time;
  • Provides clear collective agreement interpretation and guidance to operations supervisors;
  • Assists in preparing investigations and providing recommended corrective action plans;
  • Assists with the recruitment strategy and participates in interviews when required;
  • Reviews disability management claims and partners with department supervisors and managers to develop functional return to work/graduated return to work strategies;
  • Functions as first point of contact with local union representatives;
  • Collaborates with union representatives and managers in developing labour relations solutions;
  • Reviews step 1 grievances with department manager and advises on appropriate strategy;
  • Fosters trust and open communication with union representatives and delivers immediate as well as long term solutions;
  • Engages with supervisors and managers and tailors HR/LR solutions needed of each department;
  • Instills trust and respect with employees company wide;
  • Maintains department document control; and
  • Additional duties may be assigned.

What you will bring:

  • One (1) to three (3) years experience or equivalent of working in a human resources and labour relations capacity in a multi-unionized environment; 
  • Bachelor's degree in human resources management or a related program;
  • Master of Industrial Relations degree is preferred;
  • Experience in working in an industrial environment is an asset; 
  • Strong foundation of Canadian provincial and federal employment legislation;
  • Strong foundation of Canadian human rights legislation and accommodation requirements;
  • Working knowledge in the preparation and involvement in interest arbitration, as well as rights based arbitration;
  • Ability to manage competing priorities of multiple groups, while delivering comprehensive and time sensitive solutions;
  • Ability to communicate expectations and requirements in a clear and respectful manner; and
  • Strong written and presentation skills both electronically and verbal.

Additional information:

This role supports a 24/7 operation and requires the flexibility on an as and needed basis to work non-standard hours, including weekends, to meet the needs of our shift-based teams.
