The Opportunity
Position: Mechanical Design Engineer

Reports to: Principal Engineer – Isotope Production Technologies
Hours per week: 37.5 (field work, shift work and overtime may be required)

Conceptual and Detail design of components and assemblies used in Medical Isotopes Department.Complete P&IDs, detail and assembly drawings.Perform engineering analysis (calculation and FEA) in support of mechanical design.Able to work under the direction of Principal Engineer and Subject Matter Experts to develop conceptual designs and turn them into detailed design packages following a structured design process.Participate in definition of design requirements.Participate in interdisciplinary group that consists of electrical, software, and mechanical engineers, physicists and chemists.Provide guidance and work with procurement, technicians and operational staff, in procurement of components, assembly of product and troubleshooting, testing, and other duties as required.Good understanding and application of ASME codes and safety practices, related to the design of required equipment.Assist in developing proposals for internal and external customers.Liaise with customers, staff, contractors, consultants, and vendors as appropriate.Understand and assess client problems and determine appropriate means of solution.Occasional travel to client sites may be required.Other duties as required.What You Need to Succeed
Proven track record of successfully completing complex designs related to scientific equipment that include:Experience in design of scientific equipment and interfacing with different groups involved in designExperience and sizing and selection of design components and equipmentExperience in heating, cooling, evaporation, pneumatics, hydraulics, vacuum systemsExperience in structural analysis, design of mechanisms, interface of mechanical and electrical designExperience in design of experiments, FMEA and proof of concept techniques, testing and creating test plans and reportsGood knowledge of FEA and ability to carry out calculations in support of designGood knowledge of materials and fabrication processesAbility to implement above described experience and knowledge to develop industry leading mechanical designs solving the problems under different constraints and creating new technologiesAbility to carry out design activities while at the same time supporting production, and meeting demands of interfacing groupsConducting design reviews and writing technical plans and reportsOn time completion of detail and assembly drawings and BOMs in support of prototyping, procurement and productionA Bachelor's or Graduate degree in Mechanical Engineering or Nuclear Engineering (or equivalent) is requiredExperience in similar industries would be considered an assetSolidWorks design experience and analysis is considered necessary, although proficiency in other design packages would be consideredGood time management skills and demonstrated ability to organize and prioritize assigned work and coordinate multiple activities efficiently.Candidates are expected to have or to pursue attainment of the P.Eng. designationA period of 5+ years of relevant work experience is considered necessaryAbility to successfully obtain and maintain nuclear site security clearanceEssential Competencies
