YMCA Camping and Outdoor Education offers outdoor experiences that foster personal growth and build community.  After taking part in our programs, children and youth return home more confident, independent, and with new friendships. YMCA Camp Pine Crest is an overnight camp serving children, families, and organizations through naturally focused programs that embody the mission, vision, and outcomes of the YMCA. Camp Pine Crest is made up of 650 acres of Muskoka wilderness surrounded by 3 interconnected lakes with 8km of shoreline; has over 26km of hiking trails and 7,500 sq. ft. of dock and has 60 buildings.

The Camp Wellness department supports the mental and physical health of the Pine Crest community. The Wellness Administrator is responsible for the administrative operations of the department while providing hands-on support for daily wellness activities. Key focuses include managing incident reports and follow-ups, organizing and filing medical and medication administration forms, assisting with wellness checks on arrival days and pre/post trips, and supporting medication administration as needed. The Wellness Administrator also provides leadership and serves as a role model for staff in areas such as camper care, sun safety, and self-care.

In this role, you will:

  • Provide leadership and support to the camp community's overall health and wellness by offering resources, reviewing camper health forms, monitoring pertinent health information, and checking in with staff and campers as needed
  • Coordinate and support health and wellness training for staff in collaboration with the Camp Director, Assistant Director, and Wellness Coordinator, ensuring a focus on both physical and mental health and safety
  • Support campers and staff to have a positive camp experience through check-ins with campers, camper groups, and counsellors
  • Dispense camper medication according to camp healthcare procedures and ensure compliance with all safety standards
  • Respond to and rectify first aid situations promptly, communicating with camp senior staff, external healthcare providers, and parents as necessary
  • Support the camp out-tripping program through pre- and post-trip checks, including first aid kit preparation and inventory
  • Complete daily administrative tasks including inputting incident reports, following up on incidents, maintaining first aid supply inventory, organizing medical forms, and flagging campers who may require additional wellness support
  • Continuously build relationships with Pine Crest staff, campers, volunteers, families, and community partners
  • Attend all staff trainings and meetings punctually, actively participating and contributing to the development of staff members
  • Ensure health and safety procedures are followed and maintained, sharing responsibility with the staff team to maintain a clean, organized, and safe environment for campers, staff, and volunteers
  • Act as a positive role model for all participants and fellow staff by embodying YMCA values, Pine Crest's guiding principles, YMCA policies and procedures, and Ontario Camps Association guidelines
  • Perform other duties as assigned

You bring:

  • Standard First Aid and CPR-C required by the start date and valid for the duration of the contract
  • Currently enrolled in post-secondary education such as Nursing, Child and Youth Studies, or Social Work considered an asset
  • Mental Health First Aid and Wilderness First Aid considered assets
  • Valid driver's license preferred
  • Office administration and organization experience
  • Previous experience working with children
  • Ability to work effectively with others and independently to achieve optimal collective results
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment
  • Well-developed interpersonal and relationship-building skills, with the ability to establish rapport and communicate effectively with members, staff, and volunteers
  • Ability to provide mentorship and guidance to both inexperienced and seasoned staff
  • Ability to deliver feedback in a timely, professional, and constructive manner
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including days, evenings, overnights, weekends, and holidays required
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion and building a sense of belonging
