What can I expect to do in this role?
In this key role you will ensure uptime of the Services' IT infrastructure environment on a 24/7 basis. You will implement and maintain the Services' server, storage and database infrastructure environment and monitor the infrastructure to ensure it is reliable, accessible and secure.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Test, evaluate and qualifies new infrastructure software and hardware solutions.
- Design and create programs for automation tasks, monitoring the environment and sending alerts when failures occur.
- Develop and manage project initiatives to improve or stabilize the I.T. environment.
- Develop operational support documentation and training information for co-workers.
- Provide technical expertise to analyze and resolve complex I.T. related problems.
- Install and configure applications, server hardware and vendor appliances.
- Research current market trends as it pertains to I.T. security, design, support and best practices.
- Provide guidance and training to Junior Technical Analysts and other members of I.T.S.
- Participate in interview panels for potential new hires.
- Perform typical duties inherent to the position.
Education/Experience
- University or College degree/diploma in Computer Science or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
- A minimum two (2) years' experience in the support of a UNIX, Windows Server, Linux or similar complex environment, including systems administration, trouble shooting, performance tuning, networking, security and scripting.
- Experience in the design, implementation, programming and support of technical development projects.
- Strong knowledge of networking concepts, protocols and methodologies, such as TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP.
- Strong knowledge of UNIX, Windows Server, Linux, security and Web technologies.
- Knowledge of Office 365 (Microsoft 365) administration, provisioning and trouble shooting.
- Familiar with concepts of Cloud computing, IaaS, Saas and PaaS.
- Knowledge of VMware, Nutanix or similar virtualization technology, its architecture and its adaptation for server deployment and management.
- Knowledge of cloud technology platform such as Azure and Google.
- Experience or knowledge of scripting languages such as PowerShell or Bash.
Skills/Competencies:
- Must possess good oral and written communication skills.
- Must have (or be willing and eligible to obtain) a Class "G" Drivers licence and a Toronto Police Service "Blue Card".
- Experience with IBM AIX, Microsoft Windows Server, Redhat Linux, IBM DB2, Microsoft SQL Server would be an asset.
- Must be willing to be 'on call' for after-hours technical support on a rotating basis.
Probation Period:
6 months
