Job Summary
We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Research Assistant to support an interdisciplinary research initiative related to culture, community development, and the public realm. The successful candidate will assist with data collection, qualitative and quantitative analysis, and reporting, contributing to a project that examines the relationship between art, place, and community identity.
This is an excellent opportunity for an emerging researcher interested in the intersection of arts, urban studies, and social research. The role offers hands-on experience within a dynamic and collaborative environment, with opportunities for professional growth and applied research experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in developing and executing research plans, surveys, and data-gathering processes.
- Collect, organize, and analyze information from community consultations, archival sources, and relevant policy documents.
- Conduct literature and precedent reviews on topics related to public space, culture, and creative placemaking.
- Support the preparation of reports, briefing notes, and presentations summarizing findings.
- Maintain organized records of data and ensure confidentiality and research ethics compliance.
- Collaborate with project leads and community partners to synthesize insights and refine methodologies.
- Provide logistical and administrative support for meetings, interviews, or site assessments.
- Contribute to drafting sections of funding proposals or documentation as needed.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in urban studies, social sciences, cultural studies, art history, public policy, or a related field (graduate students or recent graduates are welcome).
- Strong research, writing, and data-organization skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google Workspace; familiarity with qualitative or quantitative analysis tools (e.g., NVivo, Excel, SPSS, or similar) is an asset.
- Experience with Adobe suite software (Adobe In design, Adobe Illustrators, Photoshop) is ideal but not required.
- Experience with CANVA is ideal but required.
- Excellent attention to detail, accuracy, and ability to synthesize complex information clearly.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills; comfortable engaging with community stakeholders.
- Demonstrated initiative and ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a small-team environment.
- Prior experience in arts, culture, or community-based research is an advantage but not required.
Job Types: Part-time, Freelance
Pay: $17.65-$31.65 per hour
Expected hours: 10 – 40 per week
