Mechanic / Millwright – Footwear Manufacturing

We are urgently hiring an experienced Millwright / Industrial Mechanic to support our footwear manufacturing facility in North York.
This is a high-impact role responsible for maintaining, repairing, installing, and optimizing all machinery and equipment in our shoe factory—plus supporting general building maintenance as needed.
Job Summary
The Millwright is responsible for installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing production machinery and equipment to ensure maximum uptime and efficiency. The ideal candidate has strong mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic maintenance skills, including experience with low-voltage electrical systems, welding, HVAC/boiler systems, and reading schematics. Experience with PLCs and CMMS systems is an asset.
This role also includes general facility maintenance, including basic plumbing, basic electrical where allowed, and general support tasks across the building.
The Millwright will play a key role in ensuring safety, reliability, and continuous improvement within the facility.
Key Responsibilities
Installation, Assembly & Setup
- Install, align, assemble, and calibrate machinery according to schematics and OEM specifications.
- Assist with equipment relocations, factory layout changes, and production setup.
- Operate hoisting and lifting devices safely.
- Install and support new equipment and upgrades.
Equipment Maintenance & Repair
- Perform routine and scheduled preventive maintenance to minimize downtime.
- Inspect, lubricate, adjust, and repair or replace defective components (belts, gears, motors, bearings, etc.).
- Maintain and sharpen machine and hand tools.
- Perform OEM and internal PM tasks on all footwear machinery.
- Maintain HVAC units, boiler systems, compressors, and mechanical infrastructure.
- Perform basic plumbing repairs, basic electrical troubleshooting (within scope), and general building maintenance.
Troubleshooting & Line Support
- Respond rapidly to production line down alarms.
- Diagnose and repair mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and basic electrical issues.
- Support PLC-related troubleshooting.
- Work with operators and supervisors to identify root causes of recurring problems.
- Train operators on safe machine use and basic maintenance.
Technical Documentation & CMMS
- Use a process for work orders and maintenance documentation.
- Keep detailed, accurate logs of repairs, inspections, and parts usage.
- Maintain preventive maintenance schedules and communicate equipment status effectively.
Safety & Compliance
- Perform Lockout–Tagout (LOTO) procedures.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
- Follow all workplace safety policies and report hazards immediately.
- Conduct risk assessments during maintenance tasks.
Fabrication & General Support
- Weld, fabricate, or modify parts as needed.
- Operate grinders, belt sanders, band saws, and shop equipment.
- Support production teams during repairs to minimize disruption.
- Keep maintenance shop and parts crib clean and organized.
Experience & QualificationsRequired
- Proven experience as a Millwright, Industrial Mechanic, or similar role in manufacturing.
- Strong mechanical understanding and ability to interpret schematics and technical drawings.
- Experience with mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and basic electrical troubleshooting.
- Skilled with hand tools, power tools, welding equipment, and industrial shop equipment.
- Ability to lift 25–50 lbs and perform physically demanding work.
- Strong English communication skills.
Preferred
- Millwright or Industrial Mechanic certification.
- Experience with PLC systems.
- Low-voltage electrical troubleshooting experience.
- Familiarity with HVAC, boiler systems, and facility maintenance.
- CMMS experience.
- Industrial electrician background or related electrical skills.
- Knowledge of lean or continuous improvement processes.

Working Conditions
- Manufacturing environment with noise, machinery, dust, and occasional chemicals.
- May require overtime or on-call availability during urgent breakdowns.
- Physical demands include lifting, standing, bending, and working at heights or in confined spaces.
Job Types: Full-time, Part-time
Pay: $28.00-$35.00 per hour
