Who We WantWe're looking for a Material Science Engineer to join our R&D team and lead the development of new electric heat generating technologies for the process heating industry. This role is pivotal in driving our mission to support global decarbonization and digitization trends through advanced electric heating solutions.

- Conduct research to understand the properties, behavior, and performance of refractory and metallurgical materials.
- Develop and execute test plans to understand technical concepts and validate new designs.
- Perform troubleshooting, resolution analysis on a variety of heating products and associated equipment.
- Prepare technical documents (i.e. specifications, test procedures, lab reports, root cause analysis).
- Provide technical support to Sales, Production, Purchasing, and Quality departments.
- Review updated codes and standards and assess impact on product design.
- Provide enhancement and continuous improvement to existing products and processes.
- Maintain awareness of state-of-the-art technologies. Keep Thermon abreast of the latest industry trends and recommend responsive actions.
- 5+ years hands on experience in Material Science research and development.
- Strong understanding of Material Science lab processes: sample preparation, optical microscopy.
- Familiarity with Design of Experiments methodologies to optimize compositions and processing parameters, enabling data-driven decision making.
- Experience in new product development using a structured stage-gate process from concept through commercialization.
- Strong understanding of project management principles, risk assessment, and go/no-go decision-making.
- Fundamental working knowledge of electric heating technology.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to apply scientific principles to address complex challenges.
- Minimum Bachelor's degree in Mechanical/Material Science.
- Familiarity with material electric insulating characteristics, failure mechanisms and testing methodologies: Partial discharge, capacitance, dielectric withstand.
- Experience in polymer science. Specifically thermosetting polymers.
- Direct experience with electric heating equipment.
