You will contribute directly to product development, manufacturing, and problem resolution, ensuring our components meet technical specifications, quality standards, and regulatory requirements. The Systems Design Engineering team values innovation, collaboration, and continuous career development, offering an environment where your expertise can make a meaningful impact.
THE PERSON:
The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, resourceful, and passionate about driving component excellence across product lifecycles. You thrive in cross-functional environments, demonstrate strong problem-solving abilities, and can balance technical, cost, and compliance considerations. You are committed to collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement, while also mentoring and supporting others.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Source and evaluate new electronic components; provide guidance for component selection.
- Identify and analyze alternate components for End-of-Life (EOL) replacements, design updates, or cost reduction opportunities.
- Create and maintain EP part numbers in the system; manage component change requests.
- Coordinate testing and qualification of custom components for EMI and SI performance.
- Support component-related production issues, including quality concerns, shortages, and discrepant material.
- Maintain and manage the Approved Vendor List (AVL) and Sample Library.
- Oversee component quotations and database maintenance.
- Support cost-reduction initiatives and inventory reduction efforts through consolidation and periodic reviews.
- Participate in preliminary and production BOM reviews.
- Coordinate parts management between corporate and local databases.
- Raise Engineering Change Requests to communicate obsolescence or performance issues.
- Conduct deep-dive analysis on non-direct (non-FFF) replacement parts.
- Evaluate technical feasibility of new manufacturers and coordinate business feasibility with Supply Chain.
- Facilitate discussions between manufacturers and design engineering teams regarding part failures, roadmaps, and other issues.
- Provide component management support for Contract Manufacturers (CMs).
- Mentor and train team members; share expertise across the organization.
- Drive technical innovation in validation, tool and script development, methodology enhancement, and cross-functional initiatives.
- Work closely with supporting technical teams to resolve issues and optimize processes.
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:
- Strong background in component selection and technology assessment.
- Knowledge of component manufacturing, qualification, and reliability evaluation.
- Familiarity with environmental compliance (RoHS, HF) and exemption certifications.
- Understanding of PCB assembly processes.
- Experience with PLM systems (e.g., e-Matrix, Agile).
- Strong collaboration, accountability, and teamwork mindset.
- Proficiency in Excel and the Microsoft Office suite.
- Experience with third-party obsolescence databases (e.g., IHS) is a plus.
- Expertise in Engineering Change Orders (ECO) and Change Requests.
- Experience assessing and recommending electrical and electro-mechanical components.
ACADEMIC CREDENTIALS:
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering preferred; Master's degree desired.
