General Accountant (Manufacturing experience)

(7-month term contract $65-70K, potential FT)

Location: Brampton, ON

Position Overview:

  • The General Accountant will report to the Financial Controller and will play a key role in managing Accounts Receivable, Payroll, and other General Accounting responsibilities. This position requires a detail-oriented, self-motivated professional with a strong background in Canadian GAAP and experience in ERP systems, ideally within a manufacturing environment.

Daily/Weekly Activities:

  • Update cashbook and post banking transactions in the CMS system.
  • Generate weekly Aging Reports and follow up on outstanding receivables.
  • Accurately prepare and submit bi-weekly payroll using Ceridian.
  • Maintain employee records by adding new hires and updating changes in Ceridian.
  • Reconcile payroll accounts and prepare payroll-related reports.
  • Post journal entries into the CMS system.
  • Review accounts payable cheque runs and wire payments for accuracy.
  • Prepare timely and accurate bank and general ledger account reconciliations.
  • Post accounts receivable invoices and customer payments in CMS.
  • Support the Financial Controller with account analysis and ad hoc queries.

Month-End Activities:

  • Prepare and post month-end journal entries promptly.
  • Reconcile inter-company accounts with precision.
  • Prepare accrual and prepayment schedules and post related entries.
  • Assist in preparing and analyzing financial statements.

To succeed in this role, the ideal candidate should:

  • Possesses strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively across teams.
  • Demonstrate advanced proficiency in Excel.
  • Be a self-starter with high energy and initiative.
  • Have a thorough understanding of Canadian GAAP.
  • Bring a minimum of 5 years of progressive accounting experience, preferably in the manufacturing sector.
  • Have experience working with ERP systems; CMS experience is an asset.
  • Be pursuing or have completed an accounting designation (e.g., CPA).
