Role Description
Gibbons Whistler is seeking a Sous Chef for a full-time, on-site role located in Whistler, BC. The Sous Chef will support the Head Chef in managing kitchen operations, leading a team of culinary staff, and ensuring the preparation of high-quality dishes. Daily duties include supervising food preparation, maintaining cleanliness and hygiene standards, managing inventory and food costs, and supporting menu development. Collaboration with kitchen staff to create a positive working environment and ensure exceptional guest experiences is a key part of this role.
Qualifications
- Culinary expertise in food preparation, menu execution, and high-quality presentation
- Proficiency in kitchen management, including inventory control, staff supervision, and scheduling
- Strong knowledge of kitchen health and safety standards, food hygiene, and quality controls
- Ability to creatively contribute to recipe development and seasonal menu planning
- Excellent communication, teamwork, and leadership skills
- Adaptability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
- Previous experience as a Sous Chef or similar supervisory kitchen role
- Culinary certification or equivalent practical experience preferred

What You Bring to the Table
- 2+ years of experience as a Sous Chef or similar leadership role
- Strong understanding of cooking methods, equipment, ingredients, and kitchen procedures
- Proven track record of effective kitchen and staff management
- Ability to work quickly and calmly in emergency or high-pressure situations
- Knowledge of industry best practices—experience in the Whistler dining scene is an asset
- Familiarity with restaurant management software (e.g., BevSpot), Word, and POS systems
- Excellent organizational and time-management abilities
- Strong communication and leadership skills with the ability to inspire a team
- Passion for food quality, sustainability, and continuous improvement
Your Days Will Look Like
- Lead daily food preparation and service alongside the Head Chef.
- Create high-quality dishes with strong attention to taste, presentation, and consistency.
- Support, train, and supervise kitchen staff to maintain high performance.
- Maintain kitchen cleanliness and uphold all food safety standards.
- Assist with menu planning, ordering, and managing inventory levels.
- Monitor and maintain kitchen equipment to ensure smooth operations.
- Contribute creative ideas to elevate the food program and kitchen efficiency.
- Troubleshoot issues in the kitchen, ensuring fast, effective problem-solving.
