Remote, Canada Athennian Full time $90,000 - $120,000 per year

Company Overview

Athennian increases trust in business. Our products help legal, finance, and tax teams be transaction and audit-ready by organizing business entity and corporate structure information. Over a million business entities in almost every country are managed on Athennian to automate workflows for ownership, company secretarial, governance, tax, and compliance.

The Role

We're looking for a motivated and hands-on Systems & IT Operations Specialist to join our DevOps team. This role reports to the Senior Engineering Manager, DevOps & Infrastructure.

You'll manage Athennian's internal IT landscape — from ticket triage and Google Workspace administration to mobile device management (MDM), endpoint security, and compliance support. You'll thrive in a fast-moving environment where no two days look the same, balancing structure with flexibility and showing initiative to solve problems proactively.

While this position sits within the broader DevOps function, it is primarily focused on IT operations and internal systems management rather than software or cloud engineering. As you grow in the role, you'll have the opportunity to specialize further in DevOps or advance along the IT operations leadership path.

What you'll do:
  • IT Operations & Support
  • Own day-to-day IT support and ticket management, ensuring timely and effective resolution of employee requests and incidents.
  • Provide technical support across devices, software, and network environments.
  • Manage onboarding/offboarding processes, including account setup, system access, and workstation provisioning for remote staff.

  • System & Device Administration

  • Administer and maintain Google Workspace, MDM platforms (Jamf, Rippling), and endpoint security tools.
  • Manage identity and access controls (SAML, MFA, and least-privilege principles).
  • Oversee the full lifecycle of IT assets, including procurement, deployment, and tracking.
  • Automate routine tasks using scripts (Python, PowerShell, Bash, etc.)

  • Security & Compliance

  • Partner with DevOps and Security to ensure secure configurations, patching, and adherence to company security standards.
  • Support audit and compliance activities by maintaining accurate documentation of systems and controls.
  • Proactively identify and address vulnerabilities, ensuring data integrity and device compliance.

  • Documentation & Process Improvement

  • Maintain clear, process-driven documentation for IT operations, troubleshooting guides, and SOPs.
  • Continuously refine IT processes to improve efficiency, consistency, and the overall employee experience.
A successful candidate will have:
  • A security-first mindset, with an understanding of least privilege and other security fundamentals.
  • A continuous learner's mindset, eager to stay current on emerging technologies.
  • Collaborative and grounded, with no ego — receptive to feedback, open to direction, and focused on doing what's best for the team.
  • Works well both independently and as part of a team, supporting others and contributing to a positive culture.
  • Strong attention to detail and analytical problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent organizational and time management abilities, able to balance multiple priorities effectively.
  • Self-directed and able to thrive in an autonomous environment that values accountability and trust.
  • Clear communicator with strong interpersonal skills and a genuine curiosity about technology and process improvement.
System & Tools Qualification:
  • 2+ years of experience in IT Support or System Administration roles.
  • Strong understanding of cloud technologies such as AWS & GCP
  • Proficient in Microsoft Windows and macOS operating systems.
  • Experience with Google Workspace and other collaboration tools.
  • Experience with Endpoint security solutions and Cloud security administration.
  • Experience with MFA and SAML protocols and how to implement and maintain access control.
  • Familiar with Jira Service Desk and Confluence for ticketing and documentation.
  • Experience with MDM solutions like Jamf, Rippling.
  • Experience with Password Management systems like Bitwarden or 1Password.
  • Proficient with using scripting to automate administration tasks.

Location

While Athennian operates as a remote-first company, this opportunity is open to candidates located in Canada only.

Preference will be given to individuals based in the Toronto or Calgary area, as there may be occasions where on-site presence is required for network maintenance, equipment setup, or team collaboration.

Our Culture

Our company thrives in a fast-paced startup environment where every team member plays a critical role in driving success. We value ambitious, results-driven individuals who are not only proactive in identifying opportunities but are also committed to going the extra mile. In our culture, collaboration and initiative fuel our growth as we embrace new challenges, learn constantly, and move quickly to seize opportunities. If you're a go-getter who thrives on impact and thrives in a dynamic setting, you'll fit right in.

Our values are:

Outcome Driven: We focus on setting ambitious goals and achieving measurable results, valuing success by the outcomes we deliver.

Wide Responsibility: Our team is empowered to shape success, taking ownership from problem identification to solution implementation.

Learning Mindset: We embrace curiosity, reject the status quo, and encourage continuous learning and agility.

Strategic Speed: We make fast, effective decisions and embrace a bias for action to seize opportunities quickly.

Benefits at Athennian

We're a remote-first company built on trust, autonomy, and accountability. With that flexibility comes responsibility — we're a lean team where everyone is expected to bring their full effort and expertise. We believe in real work-life balance: every employee starts with a minimum of three weeks of vacation, five sick days, and six personal or flex days, plus a company-wide winter holiday shutdown so everyone can rest and recharge together.

Our benefits are designed to support your well-being in meaningful ways. You'll have access to comprehensive health, dental, and vision coverage, long-term disability, accidental death & dismemberment, an Employee Assistance Program, and a Health Spending Account to help cover additional expenses. We also offer flexible parental leave benefits, including options for top-ups or additional paid time off — because family matters. And to help you get set up for success from day one, we provide a work-from-home allowance.
