Position Overview:

We are seeking an experienced
Senior Accountant
to lead year-end and tax engagements for a wide range of owner-managed businesses and professional corporations. This role combines technical expertise, client service, and leadership to ensure high-quality deliverables and exceptional client satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead preparation and review of year-end working papers, financial statements, corporate tax returns (T2), and personal tax returns (T1).
  • Develop and implement effective tax planning strategies for owner-managed businesses and professional corporations.
  • Provide clear, professional communication with clients regarding financial results, tax strategies, and compliance matters.
  • Supervise and mentor intermediate accountants and bookkeepers, reviewing their work and providing technical guidance.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements and contribute to the efficiency and quality of service delivery.
  • Manage multiple engagements concurrently, ensuring deadlines and firm standards are met.
  • Liaise with CRA on behalf of clients regarding audits, reviews, and other tax-related matters.
  • Stay current with changes in accounting standards and tax legislation, sharing insights with team members.

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Minimum 5 years of public accounting experience with a strong focus on year-end and tax engagements.
  • CPA designation preferred (or working towards designation).
  • Extensive knowledge of Canadian tax laws, including corporate and personal tax, and tax planning for owner-managed businesses.
  • Proven leadership ability with experience supervising or mentoring staff.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to work effectively with clients, colleagues, and CRA.
  • Proficient with CaseWare, TaxPrep, iFirm, and advanced Excel.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage priorities under tight deadlines.
