Job Summary
The Optometric Pre-Tester plays a key role in providing exceptional patient experience by performing preliminary eye tests and collecting accurate diagnostic data prior to the patient's examination with the optometrist. There is also an opportunity for further training in dry eye treatments. This position requires excellent communication skills, attention to detail, and a caring, professional manner with patients of all ages.
Duties
· Greet patients warmly and ensure they feel comfortable throughout the pre-testing process.
· Obtain and verify patient information, including medical and ocular history.
· Perform pre-examination tests such as:
o Auto-refraction
o Non-contact tonometry (eye pressure testing)
o Visual field screening
o Retinal imaging (fundus photography or OCT)
o Visual acuity measurements
o Color vision and depth perception testing (as required)
· Ensure equipment is properly cleaned, calibrated, and maintained.
· Record and input test results accurately into the patient's electronic record system.
· Educate patients about each test and answer general questions to reduce anxiety.
· Support the optometric team with patient flow, scheduling, and coordination.
· Maintain confidentiality and comply with all clinic policies and health information regulations.
· Assist with additional front desk or optical tasks as needed.
Qualifications
· High school diploma or equivalent required.
· Experience in an optometric or medical office preferred (training provided for the right candidate).
· Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
· Comfort with technology and electronic medical records.
· Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining accuracy and professionalism.
· Detail-oriented and able to multitask effectively.
· Compassionate and patient-focused attitude.
Schedule:
- 8 hour shift
- Evening shift
- Monday to Friday
- Weekends as needed
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $18.00-$28.00 per hour
Expected hours: 40 per week
