Overview

Survival Systems Limited is seeking an innovative Mechanical Designer to join our design team. The ideal candidate is someone who can think outside of the box and collaborate with a small team, while being able to also work independently with minimal direction and supervision. The ideal candidate has a knack for tinkering and fixing things and has first-hand experience working on mechanical equipment.

The Mechanical Designer will work in a fast-paced environment, solving complex problems with the design and engineering team. Working on a small team for a company recognized globally, provides rare opportunities for the Mechanical Designer. The Mechanical Designer has the responsibility to take on numerous tasks and see designs from the initial concept through to the final installation. From working on mechanical drawings in CAD, to turning a wrench in the production shop, this position requires flexibility and offers variability.

Qualifications:

  • Mechanical Engineering Technology Diploma
  • Proficient with 3D CAD (Solidworks) and Microsoft Office Suite

Desired Skills and Experience:

  • Hands on mechanical experience an asset
  • Machining and/or welding and fabrication knowledge an asset
  • People oriented with an ability to establish a high degree of credibility with staff and clients
  • Commitment to working in a team environment
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and projects in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to make decisions using sound design judgment
  • Effective interpersonal communication and organizational skills
  • Willing to work overtime as required to meet project deadlines

Job Description:

  • Participating in the design process, from initial concept to final product testing/installation, for safety and survival training simulation equipment
  • Generating basic to complex assembly and piece part drawings with minimal supervision
  • Maintaining and updating CAD files library, design documents and reports.
  • Attending design review and project planning meetings
  • Collaborating with engineering, design and production to provide design and revision support as required
  • Using mechanical knowledge to solve complex design problems and form solutions to meet clients' needs
  • Working with the production shop when required, assembling components and solving design/production issues on the fly
