Position Purpose

Provide patient-centered clinical care under the direction and supervision of a Physiotherapist and/or Occupational Therapist. Assist patients with their individual prescribed exercise programs. Assist patients with walking, transfers, stairs, safe mobility, and positioning using proper body mechanics. Provide client/family education and support to address physical, functional and self-care needs as assigned. Assist with gross motor, fine motor and balance activities. Monitor and report changes in health status to the Physiotherapist and Occupational Therapist. Participate in program planning, quality improvement and evaluation.

Essential Qualifications

  • Diploma as an OTA/PTA from an accredited college program required
  • Two years' experience, preferred
  • Sound critical thinking, good judgement, and problem-solving skills
  • The ability to work effectively and collaboratively with multi-disciplinary team
  • Demonstrated understanding and practice of rehabilitation principles and techniques
  • Demonstrated ability to recognize safety issues and follow safe work practices
  • Possess a compassionate and flexible nature, and a patient-centered approach to caregiving
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Requires good judgement, problem solving and assessment abilities
  • A keen desire to learn
