We are currently seeking a Law Clerk to join our Head Office and support our Insurance Defence team. This position is suited for a recent graduate to become an integral part of our team, supporting one of our lawyers and contributing to the seamless operation of their practice. The ideal candidate will be newly entering the workforce, eager to apply their knowledge and skills in legal administration, and keen to develop their professional expertise in a supportive environment.

What You Will Be Doing

  • The primary duty will be to review class action personal injury medical records to provide succinct reporting memoranda chronologizing pre- and post-incident health condition (which largely involve psychiatric disorders).
  • Summarize productions encompassing medical, income, and employment records.
  • Manage undertakings for all parties, including the issuance of requests.
  • Utilize proofreading and editing skills to ensure the accuracy, completeness, and proper formatting of all work products, including reports, mediation/pre-trial briefs, correspondence, and pleadings.
  • Coordinate with court offices to facilitate trial and motion bookings, and handling related court material filings.
  • Contribute to the administrative management of lawyers' practices, involving file opening and closure, meeting scheduling, and coordination of travel and accommodations.
  • Provide comprehensive administrative support, including docket entries, client list updates, billing coordination, expense processing, and invoice payments in accordance with firm accounting policies.
  • Maintain an organized and current file system for client files.

Qualifications

  • A Law Clerk Diploma or Post-Secondary education in legal administration or equivalent.
  • Familiarity with medical terminology, particularly as relates to psychological disorders, is considered an asset, as is knowledge of the Rules of Civil Procedure, court practices, and procedures.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team.
  • Upholds a high level of professionalism and maintains confidentiality in all matters.
  • Excellent technical knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
