Whitby ON LN S, Canada Ontario Shores Centre of Mental Health Sciences Full time $45,000 - $65,000 per year

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Typical working hours will be evenings, 1-9pm, Monday to Friday. However, as the facility operates 24/7/365, shifts may be changed based on needs and could include weekends and holidays.

Under the general supervision of the Facilities Supervisor:

  • Complete preventative maintenance utilizing hand tools to install, remove and adjust small screws, switches and other components including assembly and repairs as needed to office furniture, patient care furniture, patient lifts, geri-chairs, wheelchairs and other patient care equipment
  • Ability to operate power tools and equipment safely, such as air handlers, fans, pumps, compressors, circular saw, reciprocating saw, portable pump,
  • Assists tradespersons and other maintenance generalists as needed
  • Being capable of utilizing the work order system
  • Basic trouble shooting of equipment
  • Maintains an inventory of spare parts and spare equipment to facilitate emergency repairs
  • Responsible to recognize and report patient, staff, and environmental safety issues, identify and implement preventative and corrective actions, within the scope of this role
  • Other duties as

STAFFING & LICENSING REQUIREMENTS

This position has no trade licensing requirements but must be working towards a recognized trade and will work closely with other trades and staff in the performance of their duties. Strong mechanical, electrical and/or carpentry experience is an asset.

KNOWLEDGE

  • High school education required
  • Must be working towards a trade license as recognized by the Province of Ontario and applicable to the Facilities department, and/or working towards Building Operator certification
  • Knowledge of operation and care of hand and power tools required
  • Knowledge of HVAC and mechanical systems an asset
  • Basic electrical knowledge and theory an asset
  • Woodworking, carpentry and door hardware knowledge an asset

SKILLS:

  • Ability to perform physical demands of the position and maintain good attendance
  • Basic computer skills required
  • Ability to layout work and schedule jobs
  • Ability to work with small parts
  • Ability to read basic wiring diagrams and blue prints an asset
  • Ability to problem solve using basic mathematics and logic to troubleshoot and repair electrical and mechanical issues
  • Ability to interact professionally with all staff, clients and visitors to the facility
  • Ability to work under minimum supervision
  • Ability to work within a structured preventative maintenance system and make recommendations for upgrading the system as necessary
  • Maintain all assigned tools and equipment in good working order.

FREEDOM OF ACTION

The staff will operate with a minimum of supervision using work orders as the main means of direction. The staff will work with other trades persons in assisting them, as well as getting assistance from them. The staff will report to the Facilities Supervisor should supervisory assistance be required.
