MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN

City Centre Park is looking for a dependable, hands-on Maintenance Technician with a proactive mindset and a passion for service. In this vital role, you'll go beyond routine upkeep - ensuring our facilities, including the ice rink and surrounding amenities, are safe, clean, and fully operational. Your work will directly contribute to creating a welcoming, well-maintained environment where guests can enjoy memorable recreational experiences every day.

Reporting to the Facility Operations Administrator, the Maintenance Technician is responsible for maintaining facilities and equipment across the City Centre Park complex. This includes performing routine maintenance tasks, conducting equipment inspections, performing light custodial duties, completing repairs, and ensuring all areas are safe, clean, and ready for public use. This position will also be trained to operate the ice resurfacing machine (Zamboni), as this will be a routine part of the role. The ideal candidate will have a solid understanding of building systems, general repair methods, a strong commitment to safety, and must be comfortable operating equipment such as trucks, scissor lifts, tractors, etc. Flexibility is key, as this role also involves supporting various departments and assisting with special events and operational needs throughout the park.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Perform daily tasks associated with the safe and efficient operation of the facility.
• Perform routine preventative maintenance across the complex.
• Complete daily equipment checks / equipment readings (and log them accordingly).
• Complete daily flooding, cleaning, and resurfacing of the ice surface(s) using a Zamboni, ice edger, and other relevant equipment (as needed).
• Perform general maintenance and custodial duties. Light custodial duties include, but are not limited to - sweeping and washing floors, washroom and change room cleaning, power washing seating areas, garbage removal, and other general custodial duties.
• Complete general maintenance/repair duties across the facility, as assigned. This can include painting, replacing light bulbs, minor carpentry repairs, equipment repair, etc.
• Remove snow from sports complex sidewalks and emergency exits (as required).
• Ensure that the facility is operating in a safe manner and that public safety is preserved.
• Open and close the facility/complex by completing a comprehensive opening/closing checklist.
• Organize equipment set up and take down. Set up rooms for events (when needed).
• Coordinate dressing room assignments.
• Assist with other duties, as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS

• First Aid/CPR (or willing to obtain).
• Valid Class 5 driver's license.
• Available to work a variety of shifts including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays (to support the needs of the business).
• Knowledge and understanding of applicable safety legislation pertaining to the safe operation of public recreation complex would be considered an asset.
• Criminal Record Check.
• Completion of Ice Facility Operator / Refrigerator Safety Awareness courses (or equivalent) or a willingness to obtain. We will consider training an individual that has experience operating/driving other forms of machinery and equipment, but not necessarily experience operating a Zamboni.

WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is performed across the entire City Centre Park complex. This position will be subject to moderate lifting and exposure to cold temperatures. Potential exposure to ammonia gas is possible. This job requires the candidate to work a variety of shifts including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
