The Toolmaker is responsible for the manual manufacturing of various components that meet customer specifications. They specialize in the construction, repair, maintenance and calibration of the tools, jigs, fixtures, gauges, moulds, dies and instruments of a machine shop.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Machine Operation: Manually set up and operate tool room equipment (mills, lathes, grinders, hand tools) with supervision/training
  • Precision & Safety: Operate machine shop equipment safely and efficiently to produce high-quality parts for gauges and automation equipment
  • Collaboration & Improvement: Work with Design Engineers and Team Leads to refine tooling, address build issues, and seek continuous improvement opportunities
  • Maintenance & Troubleshooting: Perform preventative maintenance, troubleshoot issues, and provide solutions
  • Communication & Compliance: Report production issues, wear required PPE, complete mandatory training, and maintain a clean workspace
  • Additional Duties: Perform other tasks and responsibilities as required

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Industry Experience: 3rd year apprentices with experience in manufacturing gauges, moulds, dies, jigs etc.
  • Educational Experience: High school diploma, trade school or apprenticeship as a toolmaker, or equivalent experience as a toolmaker
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in reading and understanding blueprints, CAD drawings, GD&T, measurement skills, and basic math; able to work with precision
  • Physical attributes: Manual dexterity, ability to lift at least 10kgs (20 lbs); standing, climbing, bending, grasping, sitting, pulling, pushing, stooping, stretching, and carrying will be required
