About the jobIn this challenging position, you will:
- prepare recommendations regarding the planning, design, construction and maintenance of highway facilities
- supervise engineering service provider assignments
- carry out on-site investigations and prepare reports
- analyse and evaluate field and laboratory test data
- provide technical information and advice to staff, service providers, stakeholders and special interest groups
- evaluate pavement conditions and develop maintenance/rehabilitation strategies
Please note: fieldwork and occasional overnight travel is a requirement of this position.
What you bring to the teamMandatory requirements
- The position requires the successful candidate to have a valid G license or equivalent. The offer of employment is conditional upon the successful candidate providing proof that they have a valid driver's license upon being hired.
You have:
- Knowledge of the theory, principles and practices of pavement investigation, testing and design, to analyze problems and identify solutions
- Knowledge of highway construction and maintenance to provide cost effective solutions related to construction issues
- Knowledge of geotechnical engineering materials (soils, asphalt) to identify pavement and material problems and provide recommendations to ministry staff and consultants
- Working knowledge of computers and relevant software applications (e.g. Microsoft Word, Excel, Access), to facilitate communication, problem analysis, and data inventory
You have:
- Ability to analyze a problem by identifying critical factors, research, define causes, define possible solutions, and select best solution
- Listening, speaking, writing, working cooperatively in a team environment, to promote the effective delivery of multi-disciplinary projects
- Ability to work effectively both individually and in teams to negotiate resolve, advise, report and present technical and administrative information
- Ability to assist in the administration and supervision of consultants by preparing and administering contracts, assessing deliverables and rating performance, to effectively deliver projects without delay
