Overview
We are seeking a dynamic and highly organized Construction Manager to lead and oversee complex construction projects from inception to completion. This role offers an exciting opportunity to coordinate multidisciplinary teams, manage project schedules, and ensure the successful delivery of high-quality construction work. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in construction management, excellent communication skills, and proficiency with industry-standard software tools.
Key Responsibilities
1. Project Planning & Pre-Construction
- Lead pre-construction planning, including budgeting, scheduling, and resource allocation.
- Conduct constructability reviews and risk assessments.
- Select, evaluate, and manage subcontractors and vendors.
2. Design & Technical Coordination
- Collaborate with civil and electrical engineers, architects, and designers to interpret drawings and specifications.
- Translate AutoCAD drawings into actionable construction plans.
- Review blueprints, schematics, and contracts for accurate execution.
3. Budget & Cost Management
- Develop and maintain detailed project budgets.
- Monitor costs, track variances, and recommend corrective actions.
- Manage change orders and document all budget impacts.
4. Scheduling & Resource Allocation
- Create and manage construction schedules (Gantt charts, milestones, etc.).
- Allocate labor, equipment, and materials to meet schedule targets.
- Identify and mitigate schedule risks such as delays or procurement issues.
5. On-Site Oversight & Quality Control
- Oversee day-to-day construction operations and site activities.
- Conduct regular site inspections to verify workmanship and compliance.
- Ensure quality standards are met and address non-conformance promptly.
6. Safety & Regulatory Compliance
- Enforce safety protocols and ensure compliance with building codes and environmental regulations.
- Coordinate with health & safety officers and maintain safety documentation.
- Respond to safety incidents, lead investigations, and implement corrective actions.
7. Communication & Stakeholder Management
- Serve as the primary point of contact for project stakeholders (owners, engineers, subcontractors).
- Run regular status meetings, issue progress reports, and escalate issues as needed.
- Manage client expectations and maintain transparency on progress and risks.
8. Procurement & Documentation
- Maintain accurate project documentation throughout all phases.
- Ensure compliance with local codes, regulations, and contractual obligations.
What You Bring
- Post-secondary education with a degree in Construction Management, Civil or Structural Engineering.
- 5–7+ years of project management experience in civil construction (earthworks, roadbuilding, excavation & shoring, underground utilities, electrical).
- Experience working with BC municipalities and Metro Vancouver standards (or local equivalents).
- Ability to read drawings, specifications, and civil engineering documents.
- Strong experience with budgets, forecasting, and construction schedules.
- Excellent communication, organization, and decision-making skills.
- Proficient with AutoCAD, Microsoft Project, Adobe, and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Valid driver's license and ability to visit job sites as needed.
