Location: Abby Road Support Services
About Us: Abby Road is a supportive housing cooperative dedicated to providing quality services to our members, empowering them to lead independent, healthy, and autonomous lives. Our cooperative is home to twenty-six (26) members with physical disabilities living in forty-nine (49) units, and we pride ourselves on fostering a caring and supportive environment. We are currently looking for experienced, professional, friendly, and conscientious Health Care Aides to join our Support Services team.
Experience working with people who are quadriplegic is highly recommended.
Job Summary: As a Health Care Aide at Abby Road, you will play a crucial role in assisting our members with their daily living needs while ensuring they receive the best care possible. You will work collaboratively with a dedicated team, focusing on building relationships and providing personalized support to facilitate our members' independence and well-being.
Primary Duties: Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
- Personal Care Assistance:
- Assist members with activities of daily living, such as bathing, dressing, bowel routines (suppositories, enemas, digital stimulation), urinary care (foley care, catheter care for both male and female), wound care, medication administration, and other personal care tasks as required.
- Mobility Support:
- Provide mobility assistance, including lifts/transfers (mechanical lift, ceiling lift, one person/manual lift), positioning, turning, and range of motion exercises.
- Home Making:
- Follow members' instructions for meal preparation while adhering to best care practices for safe food handling and storage.
- Maintain cleanliness and orderliness of the member's residence, which may involve vacuuming, dusting, washing floors, changing bed linens, laundry, ironing, and garbage removal.
- Pet Care (at members' direction):
- Care for pets when instructed, including feeding, providing fresh water, cleaning litter boxes, light grooming, and letting pets out on balconies.
Required Qualifications:
- Certification as a Health Care Aide through the Alberta Government approved Health Care Aide program or equivalency as specified by the Alberta Government. Must have an HCA directory number or be in the process of getting onto the directory.
- Basic First Aid Certificate and CPR Certification are mandatory.
- Qualified candidates must successfully complete full reference checks and provide a current Vulnerable Sector/Police Information Check Certificate.
- Must be able to be bonded by a certified bonding company.
- A mature attitude, good health, and physical condition are essential (ability to lift 50lbs).

Work Schedule: This is for a temporary part time position with the option to pick up a additional shifts as needed.
Saturday 6:00 am - 11:00 am
Sunday 7:00 am - 11:00 am
Monday 6:00 am - 11:15 am
Additional shifts can be picked up based on availability and shift times can includes, daytime, evening, overnight, weekdays and weekends.
Overnight and weekend shifts qualify for a shift differential as well as last minute emergency shifts.
