Position Summary

The Apprenticeship Advisor plays a vital role in supporting Indigenous apprentices throughout their trade apprenticeship journey. From initial registration to achieving Red Seal or Provincial Certification, the incumbent works closely with our employer partners, government agencies, training institutions, trade organizations and community groups to ensure apprentices receive industry certified training and employment opportunities.

Key Responsibilities

· Provide guidance to apprentices on program requirements, training pathways, employment opportunities and current labour market trends to support informed career progression and successful completion of their apprenticeship

· Engage with students completing foundation programs to establish early relationships, provide ongoing support, and encourage their transition into apprenticeship pathways

· Monitor technical training schedules at partner colleges and coordinate apprentice registration for the next level of their apprenticeship program. Ensure apprentices progress through their required annual schooling and support them through to completion of their Journey Certification, including achieving their Red Seal or Certificate of Qualification

· Support apprentices throughout their technical training by providing mentorship, identifying potential barriers to success, and working collaboratively with each trainee to develop practical solutions. Support may include arranging tutoring, assisting with housing needs, coordinating access to tools or equipment, and addressing issues such as food insecurity

· Register eligible trainees into ACCESS Trades sponsorship and ensure all required documentation, criteria, and program guidelines are met

· Track and report apprenticeship progress for individuals sponsored by employers and unions, ensuring all milestones, training levels, and completion requirements are accurately documented

· For ACCESS‑registered apprentices, collect and input work‑based training hours into the Skilled Trades BC Direct ACCESS system and the ACCESS Trades database, ensuring timely and accurate data entry

· Prepare and maintain accurate statistical reports to support program monitoring, performancemeasurement, and funding or compliance requirements

· Other duties as assigned

Outreach & Relationship Building

· Develop and maintain strong relationships with industry stakeholders, Indigenous communities, employers, unions, colleges, and training institutions to support apprenticeship pathways and program partnerships

· Respond to inquiries from apprentices, employers, unions, colleges, and training institutions by providing clear guidance on program requirements, processes, and next steps

· Support the Outreach Manager by representing ACCESS at career fairs, job fairs, and industry events to promote trades training programs and create awareness of apprenticeship opportunities

· Meet with employers to discuss job opportunities, hiring needs, and apprenticeship pathways, promoting ACCESS trainees and supporting the development of sustainable employment partnerships

Qualifications & Experience

·Journeyperson Certification and/or relevant construction experience, with a strong working knowledge of the skilled trades, technical training requirements, and apprenticeship pathways

· Strong understanding of the skilled trades and the apprenticeship system, including pathways, certification requirements, and training progression

· Counselling, teaching, or mentoring experience is considered a strong asset

· Experience working with Indigenous peoples and communities is considered an asset, along with a demonstrated ability to build respectful, culturally informed relationships

Skills & Abilities

·Exceptional interpersonal and relationship building skills

· Empathy with the ability to support apprentices through challenges while maintaining accountability

· Strong problem-solving skills

· Self motivated with the ability to work independently, collaboratively and with minimal supervision

· An effective listener with excellent communication skills, both oral and written

· Proficiency in MS Office and data management systems

· Experienced and confident in developing and delivering engaging presentations to diverse audiences

· Valid driver's license with a clear drivers abstract and reliable vehicle

· Ability to pass a vulnerable criminal background check
