POSITION: New Product Development Specialist

REPORTS TO: Director of Product Development

SALARY: Compensation commensurate with education and experience,

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Temporary 12-15 months, Full Time

LOCATION: Charlottetown, PEI

Island Abbey Nutritionals provides full contract manufacturing, bottling, and packaging services for white-label production from concept to launch.

We are the proud makers of Honibe natural health products- the only pure solid honey products in the world scientifically proven to retain all of honey's naturally occurring health benefit.

The New Product Development Specialist will play a pivotal role in formulating, reviewing, and scaling up new product formulations from concept through to manufacturing. This position requires a strong background in product formulation, a keen understanding of manufacturing processes, and project management skills.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Formulation Development:
  • Lead the development and optimization of new product formulations.
  • Work closely with NPD team to create innovative and effective product solutions.
  • Conduct experimental trials and analyze results to refine formulations.
  • Formulation Review:
  • Evaluate and review formulations to ensure they meet quality, regulatory, and cost standards.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Quality Assurance and Operations, to ensure formulations will meet testing requirements and scale up efficiently.
  • Scaling Up:
  • Oversee the scale-up process from laboratory to manufacturing.
  • Develop and implement scale-up strategies to ensure a smooth transition and consistency in product quality.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve any issues that arise during the scale-up phase.
  • Project Management:
  • Manage project timelines, resources, and budgets effectively within NPD.
  • Coordinate with internal teams and external partners to ensure timely delivery of product development milestones.
  • Continuous Improvement:
  • Stay abreast of industry trends, technological advancements, and competitor products.
  • Implement continuous improvement initiatives to enhance formulation processes and product performance.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's of Science degree in food science, nutrition, chemistry, biotechnology or related field preferred
  • 4+ years of experience in product formulation in food, dietary supplement or pharmaceutical manufacturing, preferably with gummy experience
  • Must be well organized and demonstrate effective time management skills
  • High attention to detail.

  • Stand, or walk for an extended period on a hard surface
  • Life up to 25 lbs
  • Work in a variety of temperatures
  • Working with personal protective equipment
  • Noise
