Position Summary

Piikani Child and Family Services (PCFS) is seeking a compassionate, reliable Transitional Living Support Worker to reside on-site at our newly secured housing apartment for Transition to Adulthood (TAP) and Post-Majority Support Services (PMSS) young adults ages This role is central to supporting young adults as they navigate the transition from care to independent living, fostering safety, stability, and life skills in a culturally grounded, trauma-informed environment. This is a one-year contract with the possibility of renewal.

Key Responsibilities

  • Daily Support & Mentorship

  • Build trusting relationships with residents through consistent, respectful presence.

  • Provide emotional support, guidance, and culturally safe mentorship.
  • Model healthy routines and boundaries while respecting youth autonomy.

  • Life Skills & Independence Coaching

  • Support youth in developing skills in budgeting, cooking, cleaning, time management, and self-care.

  • Assist with goal setting, planning, and navigating adult responsibilities (e.g., appointments, employment, education)

  • Household Oversight

  • Maintain a safe, clean, and welcoming living environment.

  • Support conflict resolution and uphold house agreements.
  • Monitor safety concerns and respond to emergencies appropriately.

  • Cultural & Community Connection

  • Support youth navigating culture shock and transition from rural or on-reserve living to urban environments recognizing and being sensitive to the stresses related to identity, belonging and connection to the community.

  • Encourage connection to Piikani culture, language, and community supports.
  • Facilitate access to Elders, and cultural mentors as appropriate.

  • Transportation & Community Access

  • Use agency vehicle to support youth with weekly grocery shopping and essential errands.
  • Reinforce budgeting and planning skills during outings.

  • Documentation & Collaboration

  • Maintain daily logs and incident reports.
  • Communicate regularly with PMSS staff and participate in team meetings.
  • Support youth transitions in and out of the apartment, including intake and discharge planning.

Hours of Work

This is a live-in position with a flexible schedule totaling 37.5 paid hours per week, typically spread across weekdays and one weekend block. While the worker resides on-site and maintains a supportive presence outside of scheduled hours, only designated time blocks are considered paid hours. A sample weekly schedule includes:

Monday

9:00 AM – 5:00 PM

Weekly planning, youth check-ins, goal setting

7.5 hrs

Tuesday

1:00 PM – 9:00 PM

Life skills (cooking, budgeting), evening support

7.5 hrs

Wednesday

9:00 AM – 12:00 PM

Documentation, team meeting, cultural planning

3 hrs

5:00 PM – 8:00 PM

Conflict resolution, household routines

3 hrs

Thursday

1:00 PM – 9:00 PM

Youth-led activities, mentorship, safety check

7.5 hrs

Friday

9:00 AM – 4:00 PM

Transition planning, discharge/intake prep

6 hrs

Saturday

10:00 AM – 12:00 PM

Grocery run using agency truck, budgeting support

2 hrs

Note: Flexibility is essential. Hours may shift based on youth needs, cultural events, or emergencies. On-call protocols apply outside of scheduled hours, with support from PMSS leadership.

Qualifications

  • 1-3 years experience working with Indigenous youth, preferably in child welfare, youth housing, or mental health settings.
  • Strong understanding of trauma-informed, harm-reduction, and culturally safe practices
  • Ability to maintain professional boundaries while living on-site.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation
  • Clear criminal record and vulnerable sector check

Compensation & Benefits

  • Competitive salary aligned with Piikani CFS wage grid.
