ABOUT THE ROLE

Reporting to the Manager of Live-in Treatment, working overnight the Child and Youth Worker in the Live-in Treatment Program is responsible for working closely with youth, their families/caregivers and treatment team to maintain a therapeutic environment that addresses the social and emotional needs of children and youth in a home milieu setting. This role plays an active part in contributing and participating in the planning, implementation and on-going assessment of clinical treatment plans, including assisting youth in transition into adult living, within a multidisciplinary team. The Child and Youth Worker will ensure all related and mandatory documentation is completed in accordance with licensing requirements and internal policies and procedures.

Employment Status: Contract Full-Time

Salary Range: $56,012 to $58,323

Location: 402 Bloomington Road, this position will require travel within York

Region.

Hours of Work: Forty (40) hours per week, including evenings, weekends and overnight shifts.

A LOOK AT YOUR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Actively develop positive rapport with clients in the program to create psychological safety and trust through relationship-building activities and observation of the client's physical and emotional wellbeing.
  • Ensure client safety by following Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) guidelines for crisis prevention and de-escalation, following agency policies and procedures.
  • Intervenes physically in crisis situations to reduce harm to the client, self or others in accordance with the principles and methods of the agency approved crisis intervention model
  • Participate in the assessment of new clients, review of admission documents, preliminary briefings and support in assisting in the preparations for admission within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to provide daily activities, routines, and behavioural support that is both developmentally and clinically appropriate for children in the program based on client needs.
  • Maintain the cleanliness, organization, and upkeep of the living space, specifically client rooms, bathrooms, grounds and common spaces.
  • Facilitate therapeutic and treatment group meetings, including regular house meetings to obtain client feedback and to address concerns following agency-approved models.
  • Participate in team meetings and discussions on client cases, treatment plans and progress with a multidisciplinary team.
  • Provide client transportation to healthcare appointments and home visits as required.
  • Prepare written documentation as required by York Hills and external partners, including completing checklists that include meal planning and preparation, food ordering, laundry, and cleaning.
  • Actively report serious occurrences, including daily reporting and medication administration.
  • Work closely with the Manager of Live-in Treatment and Program Coordinator to co-develop, implement and track treatment interventions, including reporting intervention outcomes.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR:

  • Completion of a post-secondary education in Child and Youth Care, Social Work or related field.
  • Minimum of one year of related experience
  • First Nation, Inuit or Métis (FNIM) Elder, Knowledge Keeper, Healer, Medicine Person, Cultural Person with an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Knowledge of child and youth mental health legislation and regulations, including knowledge of mental health barriers, behaviours and supports required to effectively support children and youth in a milieu setting.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills, including editing skills with attention to detail.
  • Ability to liaison and build positive relationships with agency internal services, clients and external partners.
  • Ability to demonstrate sound decision-making in an intensive environment.
  • Exhibits strong observation and attention to detail skills related to client mental status, crisis prevention and in-moment client needs.
  • Employs emotional intelligence to manage and co-regulate self and client during intensive situations.
  • Competent in trauma-informed practice, child development, and child and youth care relational practice.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of youth transition to adult living (semi-independent or independent).
  • Demonstrate versatility in the ability to work independently and collaboratively to support agency and program goals.
  • Competence in modelling professionalism and maintaining a high level of confidentiality.
  • Excellent organizational, solution-based problem-solving and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work under pressure and in crisis situations.
  • Available to work flexible hours within a twenty-four (24) hour, seven (7) days a week operation.
  • Functional technological skills (e.g., Office 365, MS Office, SharePoint, software applications).
  • Awareness and appreciation for the dynamics of equity issues (diversity, equity and inclusion) especially as it relates to gender, ethnicity, race, and economic status.
  • Identification with the strategic mission, vision and values of the organization including inclusion, collaboration, people centred, knowledgeable and courageous.

ON-BOARDING REQUIREMENTS:

  • Police Broad Record Check (within the last 180 days).
  • First Aid Certification (CPR/AED Level C).
  • Completion of a medical and immunization assessment.
  • Valid Ontario Driver's License and access to a reliable motor vehicle.
  • Completion of a Driver's Abstract.
  • Proof of automobile insurance.
