Job Summary:

Reporting to the Director of Operations, the Product Developer will be responsible for the development of new Products from formulation to launch. We are looking for an individual that is passionate about food and has proven hands-on experience executing and developing products for the meat industry.

Based out of Greater Toronto Area, The PD will develop food products and processes according to the business needs of the organization, creating and executing product formulations from benchtop lab samples to launch. They will be responsible for setting out manufacturing and process controls for each product, ensuring product consistency at each stage.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead end-to-end development of new products from concept, benchtop trials, pilot runs, to full-scale commercialization.
  • Develop and optimize formulations (meat, poultry, value-added convenience items, fully cooked items, etc.) based on cost, nutrition, sensory, and operational feasibility.
  • Create and maintain detailed product specifications, ingredient matrices, SOPs, and processing parameters.
  • Conduct shelf-life studies (real-time and accelerated), sensory evaluations, and product benchmarking.
  • Collaborate with Operations, Procurement, and QA to assess raw materials, functional ingredients, equipment capabilities, and cost-reduction opportunities.
  • Support continuous improvement by troubleshooting process issues, reformulating items to improve quality, yield, and consistency.
  • Ensure all products and labels meet CFIA, USDA, and customer-specific regulatory requirements.
  • Conduct regulatory reviews for ingredients, claims, allergen declarations, FOP, nutrition fact tables, and bilingual labeling.
  • Review and approve packaging die-lines, artwork, claims
  • Monitor changes in federal, provincial, and global regulations, and implement updates accordingly.
  • Provide regulatory guidance during audits, customer reviews, vendor assessments, and product launches.
  • Ensure all regulatory records, label approvals, and formulation files are organized and audit ready.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in food science, Meat Science, Food Technology, Chemical Engineering, or related field.
  • 3–7 years of experience in product development within meat, poultry, protein, CPG, or value-added food manufacturing.
  • Strong understanding of CFIA regulations; USDA/FDA knowledge is an asset.
  • Experience with formulation software, nutritional databases, and label generation tools.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and project management skills.
  • Ability to interpret regulations, challenge non-compliance, and communicate technical information clearly.
  • Hands-on experience with commercialization, shelf-life studies, and plant trials.
  • Knowledge of HACCP, PCP, allergen control, and GFSI certification standards.
