Kelowna BC VX N, Canada KOLA Kelowna Full time US$32,000 - US$36,400 per year

Lead Educator & Site Manager (Outdoor Academy – Kelowna)

Schedule: Monday–Thursday (4-Day Week, 9:30 AM-4:30 PM)

Salary: $32,000–$34,000 + Uncapped Bonuses

Type: Salaried Employee (10-Month Contract)

About KOLA

KOLA is an inclusive, academically rigorous outdoor academy serving Grades 1–12. We teach real academics — math, science, literacy — through hands-on, place-based learning. Our cohorts are small (max 16 students 1:8 ratio), attuned, and deeply relational.

We are looking for a grounded, emotionally regulated Lead Educator to launch our Kelowna cohort. This is a leadership role.

What We Offer

  • 4-Day Work Week: Monday–Thursday
  • Zero-Prep Curriculum: Full academic binders provided, along with resources.
  • 10-Month Schedule: Winter, Spring, and Summer breaks
  • Real Outdoor Teaching: Inquiry-based math, science, ecology, physics
  • Small Cohorts: 16 students max
  • Professional Development: Opportunity to pursue RBT training, trauma-informed practice, and wilderness certifications (supported by KOLA)
  • Family-Friendly Pilot Perk: Your school-age child may join you on site during the pilot phase. Full enrolment takes priority once the cohort fills.

Compensation & Partnership

We operate on a Shared Success model. You help us build this academy, and you share in the growth.

  • Base Salary: $34,000–$36,000/year (guaranteed monthly salary)
  • Builder's Bonus (Uncapped): 10% commission on tuition for each student you recruit who enrolls full-time
  • Example: Recruiting 5 students could earn you an additional $4,000–$5,000+
  • No cap — fill the cohort, share the revenue
  • Profit Share: 5% of Net Site Profit once the cohort is full.

Responsibilities

  • Cohort size: up to 16 students. A secondary educator joins the team at 8 students so the learning environment stays calm, relational, and manageable.
  • Deliver our curriculum in outdoor settings, with some indoor partners.
  • Maintain safety: risk assessment, wildlife awareness, tool safety
  • Support emotional regulation and group dynamics
  • Model calm, grounded leadership
  • Build relationships with families and the broader community

Who You Are

Preferred Background:

A post-secondary degree and interest in/active pursuit of educator training (e.g., B.Ed). Must bring a grounded, confident, steady leadership style.

  • Calm, grounded, emotionally attuned
  • Comfortable teaching in all weather (rain, snow, heat)
  • Interested in growing professionally: RBT training, trauma-informed practice, or wilderness certifications
  • A builder — excited to help shape a new academy

How to Apply

Please submit your resume + a short cover letter answering:

  • Your preferred age group (Primary or Intermediate/Senior).
  • A time you led a group through difficult weather.
  • Any interest/experience with RBT or trauma-informed training.
