Job Title: Sr. Front End Designer (UI/UX)

Location:
Remote (within Canada) | Occasional travel to Edmonton, Alberta

Contract Duration:
12 months (extendable up to 24 months)

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver creative, evidence-based front-end design solutions aligned with GoA standards and design principles.
  • Develop design artifacts including prototypes, wireframes, component libraries, design systems, and graphic style guides.
  • Conduct user research and usability testing, and translate insights into actionable design improvements.
  • Participate in agile ceremonies (sprint planning, reviews, retrospectives) as part of a cross-functional team.
  • Provide justifiable design recommendations to align stakeholders and support decision-making.
  • Ensure all designs meet accessibility and usability standards (WCAG).
  • Support the development of design documentation and specifications for implementation.
  • Collaborate with developers, UX researchers, product managers, and policy experts to deliver seamless digital services.

Mandatory Qualifications

  • Minimum 4 years of experience as a Front-End Designer designing and enhancing services across web and digital platforms.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience developing UX artifacts (user journeys, storyboards, wireframes, prototypes, design systems).
  • Minimum 2 years of experience working within a cross-functional Agile environment.
  • Portfolio of design work (attached as PDF with annotations) demonstrating process, rationale, and outcomes.

Nice to Have

  • Experience building and maintaining component libraries and design systems.
  • Experience exploring multiple design solutions and iterating based on user feedback.
  • Experience in production design for multiple devices (web, mobile, tablet).
  • Strong understanding of accessibility standards (WCAG 2.1, AODA compliance).
  • Familiarity with human-centered design and design thinking methodologies.
  • Hands-on experience with design tools such as Figma, Adobe XD, Sketch, or Axure.
  • Experience working in a public sector or government digital service environment is an asset.
