We focus on organic and inorganic growth strategies as we look to the future. We have ambitious plans for exponential expansion over the next 3 to 5 years in the Western Canadian markets. To drive these initiatives, we are seeking a Heavy Equipment Operator to join our Operations team.
The Heavy Equipment Operator at Sublatus is responsible for safely operating and maintaining heavy machinery on demolition, remediation, reclamation, and restoration projects while adhering to project specifications and safety regulations. This role requires a skilled operator with advanced proficiency in Topcon/Trimble GPS systems to maximize precision in grading, excavation, and site layout.
Requirements of this position include, but are not limited to:
- GPS & Technology Coordination: Advanced proficiency with Topcon/Trimble GPS systems is mandatory. The successful candidate will independently read and interpret complex engineered designs, upload and utilize grade plans within excavator and dozer GPS systems, and coordinate GPS technology both inside and outside machinery to enhance precision in grading, excavation, and site layout. Responsibilities include using a rover and data collector to take topographical shots, build as-built files, and conduct QA/QC site grade verification.
- Equipment Operation: Safely and efficiently operate heavy equipment, including excavators, bulldozers, backhoes, loaders, and other specialized machinery required for project tasks. Adjust operation methods as needed based on ground conditions, project specifications, and safety requirements. Candidate must know how to read and follow grades and contour surfaces based on engineered designs.
- Equipment Maintenance: Conduct daily inspections, perform preventative maintenance, and troubleshoot equipment to ensure optimal functionality. Report malfunctions or required repairs promptly to the supervisor and assist in coordinating service needs when necessary.
- Site Preparation: Prepare and clear worksites by moving earth, demolition debris, and other materials in alignment with project plans, grades, and specifications. Soil segregation between topsoil, subsoil, and clay is required with minimal add-mixing.
- Material Handling: Load, transport, and unload materials and equipment. Ensure accurate placement and alignment of materials to support construction and safety standards.
- Safety Compliance: Adhere strictly to all occupational health and safety standards, company policies, and provincial/federal regulations. Wear appropriate PPE at all times and actively participate in maintaining a safe work environment.
- Project Coordination: Work collaboratively with crew members, supervisors, and contractors to maintain efficient workflow and meet project timelines. Follow instructions closely while demonstrating adaptability to changing site conditions.
- Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records of equipment usage, maintenance activities, GPS usage, and any incidents or issues encountered on the job site. Submit reports in a timely manner.
- Flexibility & Travel: Be prepared to travel to out-of-town project sites as required. Flexibility in scheduling, including extended hours, evenings, and weekends, may be necessary to meet project demands. Company accommodations and travel allowances will be provided where applicable.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent; relevant vocational training or certification in heavy equipment operation is preferred.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience operating heavy equipment in construction, demolition, or similar industries.
- Proven ability to operate a variety of heavy machinery safely and efficiently.
- Strong understanding of safety regulations and best practices related to heavy equipment operation.
- Proficient in uploading grade plan and coordinating GPS systems in excavators, dozers, and field layout to ensure precise grading and excavation.
- Excellent hand-eye coordination, spatial awareness, and mechanical skills.
- Ability to work effectively in various weather conditions and under physically demanding circumstances.
Valid Training Tickets Required:
- Valid training certificates – H2s Alive, Ground Disturbance, WHMIS GHS 2015, TDG, CSTS, Standard First Aid with CPR/AED
- Valid class 5 driver license
Due to the safety-sensitive nature of our projects, all employees are required to pass the following:
- Clean criminal record check
- Physical fitness-for-duty test, 50lb
- A negative alcohol and drug test result
- Clean drivers abstract
- Consent to participate in all required tests
Working Conditions:
- This is a full-time, hourly role
- Travel is an expectation of the roll, and the applicant must be willing to travel to work sites within western Canada.
- Willingness and ability to work extended hours and weekends
