This position has an end date of 12 months from the date of hire.

Location - This role is in-person at North Campus Edmonton.

The mission of the Department of Critical Care is to foster innovative, inter professional, high impact translational and clinical research across the spectrum of caring for critically ill patients.

The purpose of this position is to provide support to clinical research in the NeuroICU and Principal Investigator (PI) initiated studies in GSICU, ranging from in-house investigator research to industry sponsored research. Under the direction of the PI this position is diverse and complex, with some standard procedures and day-to-day research operations, procedures and protocols, as well as the development of new procedures and techniques, and independent problem solving. This position is responsible for coordinating various investigator-initiated and industry-sponsored research studies; therefore, work is done with an independent schedule and minimal supervision. Some evening, night and weekend shifts may be required.

  • Participates in protocol management: reviews and adheres to multiple research protocols
  • Assists investigators with the preparation of documents for ethics submission (consents, protocols, study progress updates, adverse events reporting)
  • Assembles study-specific source documents and prepares study binders to ensure regulatory documentation is maintained to meet study requirements
  • Conducts screening and recruitment of potential study participants
  • Conducts patient follow-up, data collection, case report form (CRF) completion, study monitoring, data query resolution
  • Provides ongoing written and oral reporting with the University Health Ethics Research Office (ARISE) and Northern Alberta Clinical Trials and Research Centre (NACTRC), investigators, and industry sponsors
  • Prepares for and assists with site visits by monitors once studies are closed out
  • Ensure the GCP guidelines are followed

Minimum

  • Post-secondary degree in Biological Science, Epidemiology, Health Sciences; equivalent combination of clinical research experience and education may be considered
  • Minimum 2 -3 years experience with clinical trials
  • Previous experience recruiting patients and research experience involving patients.
  • Must be comfortable entering the ICU

Preferred Qualifications

  • Completion of NACTRAC research coordinator course considered an asset
  • Completion of Society of Clinical Research Associate (SOCRA) certification considered an asset
