Location - This role is in-person at North Campus Edmonton.
The Team Lead, Medical Education in the Department of Radiology & Diagnostic Imaging provides leadership and supervision to a team of medical education administrators responsible for three accredited residency programs with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC).
This position works directly with the Academic Department Manager / Program Directors and Program Administrators to continuously improve the Postgraduate Residency Programs within the Department of Radiology & Diagnostic Imaging and collaborates closely with department leadership. The Team Lead monitors all postgraduate learning activities in the Department and acts as a primary source of information relating to postgraduate medical education.
The Team Lead assists team members in understanding assigned roles and performance objectives and strives to build a collaborative team through guidance, training, and mentorship. As the senior technical expert on the team, the team lead serves as the point of contact for inquiries and escalations while optimizing program/service and operational performance.

Education Leadership (40%)
- Directs collaborative exams within the Department e.g. Objective Structured Clinical Exams (OSCEs).
- Compiles data for Department resident and teaching awards. Communicates with PGME, Department or Student Awards Office for payment.
- Under the direction of the Program directors, drafts curriculum development, design and implementation and recommendation for curriculum change.
- Analyzes and summarizes information relating to resident performance in each program using one45 and DASH systems.
- Leads the program administrators in preparation for all accreditation visits of all Radiology & Diagnostic Imaging residency programs and accredited fellowship programs with the RCPSC.
Budget (15%):
- Develops and manages medical education office budget for Department approval and sets financial objectives for the future in conjunction with the Academic Department Manager.
- Collaborates with the Academic Department Manager to balance funds received from the Physicians Education Development (PED) grant, sponsored trainee. Tracks with programs. Ensures funds are allocated appropriately and spent by fiscal year end.
- Advises Program Administrators / Program Directors on the PED grant guidelines. Consults PGME if required.
- Provides data and analysis to the Academic Department Manager / Chair regarding financial issues to support decision making.
- Prepares education budgets for Program Director / Chair's approval.
- In collaboration with the Program Director, prepares clinical teacher preceptor payments allocations for the Chair's and ADM's review and signature. Works with program administrators to gather data.
Represents the area (15%):
- Represents medical education leadership on university committees and working groups.
- Lead department representative on Department Radiology & Diagnostic Imaging (Department specific committees eg PD/PA Committees).
- Attends Residency Program Committees and Competence Committees for programs as required.
- Ensures appropriate communication of decisions and outcomes with relevant parties.
- Standing, voting member on the PGME Committee Meeting.
Team Building and Leadership (30%):
- Coordinates team activities based on area prioritizations. Keeps team focused and on track by assigning and allocating work to team members. Matches work to appropriate team member(s).
- Creates a supportive and inclusive team environment that encourages open communication amongst team members.
Helps to address and resolve the concerns of team members. Seeks consensus among diverse viewpoints. Prevents conflict between team members where possible; but resolves it when it does arise.
Undergraduate Degree (ie. business, commerce or education). Work experience equivalencies will be considered.
- 5 years of experience hiring, supervising, mentoring, and managing employee performance within a large, complex, unionized environment.
- Prior UofA experience in a supervisory role is considered an asset. UofA's Management Intensive course an asset.
- Previous experience in medical education at a managerial level within a department or at a Faculty level required.
- Demonstrates ability to develop and maintain positive, professional, collaborative working
relationships with all parties at all organizational levels. - Demonstrates ongoing excellent communication with all stakeholders from a wide variety of cultural backgrounds.
- Demonstrates ability to work independently and collaboratively.
- Demonstrates ability to manage time and workload effectively and meet deadlines.
- Demonstrates ability to apply and adhere to strict confidentiality guidelines, FOIPP, records management protocols, and all relevant University policies.
- Demonstrates knowledge of the University of Alberta policies and procedures are considered an asset.
- Demonstrates proficiency in MS Office and Google Workspace required.
- Awareness of Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons accreditation standards an asset.
- The ability to think critically about existing, complex process, and to produce standard operating procedures to streamline these processes.
- The ability to meet multiple deadlines, prioritize multiple projects and work with minimal supervision.
