Laboratory Genetic Counsellor

The Laboratory Genetic Counsellor will work to facilitate the ordering and assessment of internal lab genetic testing requests, coordinate pre-analytic review, and assist with case triage. The Laboratory Genetic Counsellor will liaise with laboratory and scientific staff to standardize ordering and workflows, follow-up with clinicians on complicated test orders, and provide education and consultation. The Laboratory Genetic Counsellor will work collaboratively with the Laboratory Manager and Laboratory Directors to develop internal testing strategies, participate in laboratory quality management, standardize test ordering and act as a resource for both laboratory and clinical stakeholders. The Laboratory Genetic Counsellor will work with the Laboratory Directors to obtain clinical or family history, review genetic results and compose case-specific interpretations, as required. The Laboratory Genetic Counsellor will promote the development of the HRLMP's Genetic Laboratory service through networking with other health care providers, participation in teaching and projects to support patient care.

1. Master of Science degree in Genetic Counselling from an accredited program 
2. Certification with the Canadian Association of Genetic Counsellors (CAGC) and/or the American Board of Genetic Counseling (ABGC)
3. Good interpersonal skills, problem solving ability and flexibility, and the ability to work within a complex health care system 
4. Evident skills in both verbal and written communication 
5. Knowledgeable about medical practice guidelines and latest standards for genetic testing
