About Us
Established in 1963, Strescon Limited has grown to become the largest precast, pre-stressed concrete manufacturer in Eastern Canada. Its primary market covers the Atlantic Provinces and the New England region of the United States. Strescon manufactures a wide range of both architectural and structural precast/prestressed concrete products including bridge girders, wall panels, complete parking garages, hollow-core planking, piling and deck slabs. Strescon presently has two facilities: 70,000 sq. ft. in Saint John, New Brunswick and 50,000 sq. ft. In Bedford, Nova Scotia.
In addition to our engineered precast facilities for custom components, Strescon also operates a 32,000 sq. ft. facility in Saint John which manufactures standard concrete products for engineered drainage systems, such as pipe, manholes and catch basins.
Job Summary
The procurement specialist is responsible for developing and maintaining both new and existing professional relationships with suppliers in the process of sourcing goods, materials and services. The focus of this job is to support the business and ensure operational efficiency, profitability and safety. This position focuses on the Strescon business line, however there will be constant collaboration with affiliated procurement specialists and companies/departments within the OSCO Construction Group, giving the team a strong and versatile supporting structure.
Responsibilities
- Purchase raw materials, consumables, parts, equipment and services
- Conduct price negotiations with suppliers
- Identify and source new suppliers
- Evaluate supplier performance
- Co-ordinate and expedite the delivery of purchased items
- Set up and maintain JD Edwards (ERP) purchase and work order systems
- Oversee and manage the Vendor Managed Systems (VMI) deployed within the Strescon manufacturing locations
- Identify areas for improvement in current processes and implement strategic changes focused on efficiency and profitability
- Collaborate with other Procurement Specialists across the OSCO group of companies to drive efficiencies and rationalize our supplier base
- Co-ordinate with other internal departments to identify procurement requirements
- Other duties as assigned
Technical Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in business administration, or a related field
- Experience in purchasing is preferred
- Experience in supply chain and logistics is considered a strong asset
- SCMP/SMT/APICS Certification, or interest in pursuing additional relevant training
Business Requirements
- Knowledge of One World ERP (JD Edwards) is an asset
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications including Microsoft Word & Excel
- Collaborative approach to the work environment with strong, effective communication skills
