Metal Additive Manufacturing Engineer

Overview
We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Additive Manufacturing Engineer to join our team. The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in designing for additive manufacturing using metal Laser Powder-Bed Fusion (LPBF) technology and CNC machining to produce the highest quality components through the PADM QMS in Medical Device (ISO and Aerospace (AS9100) manufacturing processes. This position involves collaborating in a team environment with various departments to implement the highest quality standards for our customers.
Duties
- Design AM build strategies for additive manufacturing using Design for Additive Manufacturing (DfAM) principles
- Perform 3D modelling, CAD design, and create technical drawings for part manufacturing
- Develop post-processing strategies for metal AM parts including heat treatment, support removal, and surface finishing.
- Collaborate with the Subtractive and Quality department to develop fixturing, machining strategies, manufacturing control plans, and inspection plans for metal AM parts.
- Communicate with customers to gather project requirements, provide AM design considerations, communicate deliverables and timelines, etc.
- Manage additive manufacturing projects including timelines, resource estimates, process/manufacturing documentation, working with subcontractors, and ensuring quality objectives are met
- Ensure project compliance per the companies Quality Management System and maintain an understanding of ISO 9001, ISO 13485, and AS9100 quality requirements
- Develop and maintain subject matter expertise in AM technologies, post processing, and material science.
- Support additive manufacturing R&D and continuous improvement projects.
- Developing and implementing manufacturing process validation plans, and providing Quality support.
- Planning and managing testing activities, evaluating test data and interpreting results, communicating actions and outcomes of testing activities, preparing reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing data.
- Assisting Sales staff to develop and implement cost models quote projects and components
- Performing supplier qualification (including second party audits) and maintaining Critical Supplier List.
- Participating in manufacturing risk analysis and process design reviews.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree from a Canadian, US, or European University in Engineering or a related technical field.
- Proven experience in Design, manufacturing and quality control.
- Extensive CAD experience and design skills with the ability to interpret technical drawings and data sets effectively with formal training in Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
- Familiarity with quality inspection techniques and methodologies.
- Knowledgeable in Quality Management Systems and their implementation in accordance with standards (ex. ISO 13485, ISO 9001, AS9100).
- Understanding of good manufacturing practices and documentation.
- Familiarity with various inspection methods and processes.
- Knowledgeable in Health Canada and FDA regulations is an asset.
- Minimum 3 Years in a Manufacturing environment (medical devices, aerospace, defense or any other regulated industries).
- Eligible for Professional (EIT or P. Eng.) Registration with Engineers Geoscientists Manitoba (EGM)
Skills
- Extensive Design for Additive Manufacturing (DFAM) experience is a very important for a strong candidate.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
- Proficient CAD Skills: SolidWorks, nTopology, Materialize Magics, EOSPrint, Fusion 360, NX
- Designing for Additive Manufacturing with Metal Laser Powder Bed Fusion Technology and support structures
- Excellent manufacturing engineering design skills for CNC machining
- Knowledgeable in problem-solving and quality improvement tools and techniques.
- Understanding of statistical tools.
- High attention to detail and the ability to work in a team environment are essential.
- Strong analytical, presentation and communication skills.
- Experience in project management is highly desirable.
- Detail-oriented mindset with a commitment to producing high-quality work.
- Good planning and project management skills.
- Self-driven, and able to make decisions.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and Minitab (or similar).

- Candidate will require an RCMP background check and must meet the requirements of the Canadian Controlled Goods Program.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $52,000.00-$92,000.00 per year
