Your Role:
As a member of the Niagara Health Laboratory Medicine Management Team, the Manager, Laboratory will manage the day-to-day laboratory operations to meet organizational needs and monitor operational effectiveness through key performance indicators and measures. They will lead laboratory initiatives as required and manage and monitor human, financial, and capital resources. Additionally, the Manager will ensure compliance with various accreditation, licensing, professional regulatory, safety standards, and laws as they apply to laboratory operations. They will align these programs with Niagara Health's strategic plan, relevant legislation, and multi-union collective agreements. This role is based in Niagara Falls and Welland and involves travel across multiple sites.
Key Responsibilities:
o Oversee the daily operations of the clinical laboratory, ensuring accurate, timely, and efficient processing of laboratory tests
o Lead and manage a multidisciplinary team of medical laboratory technologists, technicians, and support staff
o Monitor laboratory performance through key performance indicators (KPIs) to ensure operational effectiveness
o Ensure compliance with all relevant regulatory and accreditation requirements (e.g., Accreditation Canada, IQMH, OHSA)
o Develop, implement, and monitor quality control and quality assurance programs
o Manage human, financial, and capital resources effectively, including budgeting, procurement, and inventory control
o Demonstrated experience in budget development, fiscal planning, and financial management, with a proven ability to monitor and control expenditures in line with organizational goals and priorities
o Strong understanding of financial reporting, cost analysis, and variance analysis, with the ability to make data-driven decisions to ensure budget adherence and optimize resource allocation
o Collaborate with physicians, nursing staff, and other departments to support clinical decision-making and patient care
o Support and lead continuous improvement initiatives to enhance laboratory services and patient outcomes
o Ensure staff are properly trained, certified, and updated on new procedures, safety standards, and technologies
o Participate in strategic planning and development of new diagnostic services and testing capabilities
o Maintain strong relationships with internal and external partners
QUALIFICATIONS:
o Relevant Bachelor's degree or other healthcare professional degree
o Completion of a Medical Laboratory Technology program from an accredited college
o Current registration with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Ontario (CMLTO) and the Medical Laboratory Professionals Association of Ontario (MLPAO)
o Minimum of 5 years of leadership experience, or equivalent combination of education/training and experience
o Minimum of 5 years of related administrative experience in a clinical laboratory setting
o Completion of IQMH assessor training and current IQMH assessor status
o Demonstrated knowledge of the principles and practices of quality improvement, program design and evaluation
o Knowledge and application of project management processes
o Demonstrated ability to foster a positive team environment, encouraging participation, respect, and cooperation to achieve desired outcomes
o Ability to manage and respond effectively to multiple simultaneous demands from key partners
o Strong analytical skills to interpret data and guide decisions supporting the delivery of safe, effective, efficient, innovative, and high-quality services
o Excellent organizational, interpersonal, communication, leadership, judgment, critical thinking, and decision-making skills
o Proven analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting abilities
o Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team and in a unionized environment
o Proficient working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
