About the Position

The Scenic Painter will work under the direct supervision of the Production Manager, taking direction from Director and Set Designer where applicable. They will paint scenic and properties elements as required and to the high standards set by Magnus Theatre.

Responsibilities

  • Painting of scenery and set pieces in concordance with the Set Designer and Director's visions and designs
  • Assist with the base coating of scenery and painting of properties
  • Complete all tasks in a timely and professional manner
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and secure working environment
  • Safely operate power and hand tools, including air compression tools
  • Assist in the taking of inventory of equipment and supplies
  • Assist with other special events on an as-needed basis
  • Abide by all Company policies and procedures including health and safety practices
  • Sundry duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Appreciation for the performing arts
  • Creative problem solving
  • Self-motivated, well-organized, and energetic with a positive and professional demeanor
  • Works well independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to work within and maintain a highly effective and positive team culture
  • Experience working in a Theatrical Production environment an asset

Further Information

This casual position will run from approximately September to June and the successful candidate will work onsite in Thunder Bay, Ontario to grow Magnus Theatre alongside our vibrant, team-oriented staff. Occasional evening and weekend work will be required.

This position is governed by the terms outlined in the Collective Agreement negotiated between Magnus Theatre and IATSE Local 467, but there is not a requirement that the successful applicant already be a member of IATSE.
