Fresh Market Foods is looking for an Assistant Meat Manager who can support our Meat Department with expertise, leadership, and a hands-on approach. If you can manage staff, help keep our counters full, and ensure top-quality cuts while maintaining a safe and customer-focused environment, this is the role for you

Responsibilities:

• Maintain staff schedules to ensure adequate coverage of the department in the absence of the Meat Manager.
• Train, delegate, and direct meat staff when the manager is away.
• Address performance and disciplinary issues, including no-shows or other staff concerns.
• Complete orders, verify accuracy, and process returns as needed.
• Monitor inventory, prioritize products nearing expiry, and perform monthly counts in the manager's absence.
• Train staff on the use of Dayforce and Dayforce Wallet apps.
• Create weekly production lists and assign daily tasks with clear instructions in the manager's absence.
• Update prices based on supplier costs when the manager is away.
• Review production sheets weekly and adjust production according to sales trends.
• Ensure cleanliness of the meat cutting room, storage, and freezer areas, including all equipment and tools.
• Ensure staff follow all policies, procedures, and uniform standards.
• Promote health and safety compliance with Fresh Market Foods protocols and Canadian regulations.
• Address customer inquiries, complaints, and compliments in person or over the phone.
• Demonstrate expert knowledge in cutting, trimming, and preparing all types of meat, including beef, pork, chicken, and etc
• Mentor other butchers and staff in advanced cutting techniques and best practices.
• Select and price items for weekly sales flyers, coordinating information for file maintenance by Tuesday each week.
• Develop and price recipes for the gourmet product line, ensuring consistency and accuracy.
• Ensure quality control of meat products and department operations while maintaining proper labeling and pricing in coordination with file maintenance

Qualifications and Skills:

• High school education preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience, with strong leadership and communication skills.
• 1 to 2 years of previous Supervisor experience in a Meat industry or retail environment.
• Proficient in operations, including product knowledge, inventory management, and customer service.
• Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Knowledge or certification in safe food handling is considered an asset.
• Comfortable using scheduling, payroll, and inventory software (e.g., Dayforce, Microsoft Office).
• Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment, including weekends and holidays.

Terms of Employment: Permanent Full-time (40 hours/week)

Wage/Salary: Starting at $25.00 – $28.00 per/hour (depending on experience)

Language of Work: English, French (an asset but not a requirement)

Transportation: Fresh Market Foods will cover a one-time round-trip travel cost for the successful candidate to our location and back to their permanent residence at the end of the work period. This does not include the cost for a full trailer move (household goods, trailers, or large personal belongings etc).
