Course Number and Title: BTC1895H: Python Coding 

Course Description:

Topics in digital health marketing are explored in this course from a coding perspective.  The coding language for this course will focus on learning the basics of Python and how it is applied to digital health marketing.  The possible range of digital health marketing topics, to be determined by the instructor, would include such examples as search engine optimization, targeted advertising, email marketing, data privacy, social media engagement, digital patient recruitment for clinical trials, chatbot for digital health services, predicting patient retention, social media sentiment analysis and web scraping.  Students will work on a significant project in digital health marketing that will draw upon their coding skills.

Estimated course enrolment: 24

Estimated TA support: 40-50

Class Schedule:  Specific dates to be determined in consultation with the MBiotech Program Office (NOTE: All courses at UofT Mississauga are expected to be delivered in person in Winter  2026)

Sessional Dates of Appointment: January 8th- April 8th, 2026

Salary: $17, includes 4% vacation pay)

Minimum Qualifications:A PhD in computer science is required.  Experiencing teaching Python is essential.   Teaching experience includes teaching assistant or sessional lecturer at an accredited university.  Private sector experience where the position has been a data scientist.  Experience with therapeutic data is needed in a private sector setting.  Experience using statistics to make inferences about online behaviour with regard to product purchases and shopping behaviour.

Preferred Qualifications:  Same as minimum qualifications.

Description of Duties:  All regular duties related to the design, teaching and delivery of a University credit course, including,  but not limited to, Meeting with each student team to guide/advise them on their presentations. They are holding office hours as required. Marking/evaluating student presentations and written examinations; recording student attendance; recording and submitting grades; and communicating with students on course-related matters for the Winter term.
