The opportunity
Tata Steel Minerals Canada is currently seeking an experienced Belt Technician to join their highly skilled team to work on a Fly-in/Fly-out basis of 2 weeks On/Off with a standard 12 hours/day schedule, to and from the Menihek region in Labrador, near the town of Schefferville, QC. Operations at our mine site are running 24/7 all year long.
The main pick-up points are: St. John's, Gander, Deer Lake in NL, Halifax, NS, Moncton, NB and Montreal, QC.
Major Responsibilities
The responsibility of the Belt Technician (Belt Splicer) is the installation and repair of conveyor belts and conveyor systems at processing plant.
Ability to perform physical manual labor, in the outdoors, heavy industry, construction or mining environment.
Mechanical aptitude – competence in the use of conveyor belt working tools and equipment.
- Skilled to perform conveyor belt splicing and maintenance; requires knowledge of belts and related equipment to perform the splice.
- Lap splice, Step splice, finger splice, and cable belt splice
- Ability to install super screw and fasteners
- refurbishment skills
- basic rigging, lifting and slinging
- pulley lagging including ceramic, poly and rubber lagging.
- Tracking the conveyor belt
- Changing pulleys and rollers
- Promote safety by working adhering to TSMC safety guidelines; which includes but is not limited to the proper use and safe handling of tools, equipment and materials and use of personal protective gear.
- Know, understand and capable of utilizing emergency response protocol.
Your Profile
- Experience in conveyor belt repair and maintenance
- Experience in the construction, power plant industry, mining, preferred
- Beginner / Intermediate computer skills, proficiency in Word, Excel and Outlook, preferred
- Demonstrated working knowledge of Mining industry safety standards, training, and compliance issues.
- Ability to use respirator
- Ability to work in confined spaces, heights and outside in cold temperatures
- Must be able to multi-task, meet deadlines and work independently and in a team environment.
