About the Role
We are seeking an experienced growth-oriented Senior Manager of Business Development to add to our Growth team.
Reporting to our VP of Growth, the Senior Manager of Business Development plays a pivotal role in expanding the company's market position and achieve financial growth by identifying and developing new business opportunities and strategic partnerships in key target markets outlined in Avnan's growth plan. The BD candidate will be involved with prospecting and developing new relationships with potential customers, collaborating with the marketing and engineering team to bring market feedback for future product development opportunities, lead cross-functional meetings to onboard new customers and act as a technical resource to customers. As a member of the sales and marketing team, you will work collaboratively with both internal and external stakeholders to align and prioritize activities that help the organization achieve its business objectives.
Due to the nature of our business, our ideal candidate must have a proven track record of successfully selling customized electronics/engineered products (preferably in electronic controls), be comfortable as the voice and representative of the organization and have passion for establishing new relationships and partnerships.
In this role, the Senior Manager of Business Development is responsible for:
- Develop business development strategies and collaborate with the team to execute the go-to-market (GTM) plan.
- Identify new markets and customer segments that align with Avnan's growth plan.
- Prospect for new customers and nurture relationships to drive pipeline results.
- Participate in marketing and sales activities such as conferences, tradeshows and other events to find new business opportunities.
- Represent the Avnan brand and may at times, act as the spokesperson for launching new technology to market.
- Outreach and book meetings to qualify new opportunities.
- Develop sales pitches, proposals and pricing strategies to present to potential new customers.
- Work with account managers, supply chain and sourcing teams to onboard and hand off new customers.
- Contribute to revenue forecasting and building financial targets.
- Track and report on sales KPIs, sales pipeline and revenue performance using the in-house CRM system.
- Proactively manage weekly, monthly, quarterly sales activity plans in pipeline to achieve revenue goals.
- Work closely with marketing to define the value proposition for each target segment.
- Solicit market feedback and work with internal stakeholders to continually refine our customer value.
- Provide market intelligence to guide our technology development roadmap.
- Propose creative technical solutions to win opportunities and negotiate win-win agreements to close deals.
About You
Our ideal candidate has:
- Engineering or Technologist Degree or Diploma in Electrical or Electronic Engineering (or equivalent combination of work and experience) required due to the nature of our products
- Minimum of 7 years' experience in a similar role is preferred
- Minimum of 3 years' experience selling customized electronics products and solutions to OEM customers
- Technical familiarity of electronic control products preferred
- Work experience in a Manufacturing type company, ideally in electronics or electrical assembly
- Familiar with overseas suppliers, understanding international vendors, culture, time zone challenges
- Experience working with a sales cycle ranging from 6-18 months
- Experience working in an ISO environment, and a process-driven company
- Prior project experience in Electronics Industry or HVAC background would be an asset
- Prior experience in design engineering phases would be an asset
- Experience with cold calling to uncover leads
- Planning and forecasting experience is an asset
- Experience with developing sales, budgets, forecast and activity plans
- Excellent sales and negotiation skills
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills and relationship management
- Must have passion for proactively prospecting for new business opportunities
- Must be technologically savvy and adapts well to new processes and systems
- Highly organized and detail oriented
- Exceptional presentation skills and comfortable
- Solutions-oriented, diplomatic and have a high level of self-awareness
- Excellent time management and organizational skills
- Detail oriented, systematic and consistent with documentation
