Your New Role

As the Manager, Commercial Property Accounting, you will serve as the subject-matter expert for commercial and retail accounting as the organization scales its mixed-use operations. This is a newly created role that offers the rare opportunity to design and implement systems and processes that will form the foundation of the company's commercial accounting platform.

You will be responsible for leading the implementation of the Yardi commercial module on behalf of the accounting team, ensuring the system is configured to reflect the complexities of retail and commercial lease structures. Beyond systems, you will design accounting workflows and establish controls, particularly around operating-cost recovery (CAM), to ensure accuracy and scalability.

This is a highly collaborative role, requiring close partnership with Operations, Asset Management, and other accounting professionals. While the position begins as an individual contributor role, it is designed to evolve into a people-management position as the platform and team expand.

What Sets You Apart

You are a hands-on property accounting professional who thrives in a dynamic and evolving environment. With at least five years of experience in retail (preferred) or commercial/office property accounting, you bring a deep understanding of operating-cost recoveries (CAM) and full-cycle accounting processes.

You have leadership experience, either through managing a team directly for two or more years or by serving as an entry-level manager who has coached or mentored indirect reports such as CPA students or co-op staff. Beyond technical skills, you are known for your ability to teach, coach, and support others, and you are motivated to step into a more formal leadership role as your next career step.

You have a proven track record of setting up or improving accounting platforms and processes, including chart of accounts, lease-parameter setup, and Yardi workflows. You are advanced in Excel, with strong skills in functions such as v-lookups, pivot tables, SUMIFS, and INDEX. A CPA designation and prior experience with Yardi implementations are considered strong assets. Most importantly, you are adaptable, detail-oriented, and proactive, with the ability to solve problems, influence outcomes, and collaborate across functions.
