Job Title: Store Supervisor - WIN Colwood Location

Victoria Women In Need Community Cooperative (WIN) is a non-profit community service cooperative that provides programs to support women, trans, non-binary, and Two-Spirit people along their journey between crisis, self-sufficiency, and wellness. We run 5 resale shop locations as well as an online shop to be able to support us in funding our programs and operations.

  • Type of Position: Full-Time
  • Location: 310 Goldstream Ave #2, Colwood, BC V9B 2W3
  • Wage Range $19.00- $20.50/ hour (with paid breaks)
  • Hours per week: 35-40 hours/week including at least one weekend day; schedule subject to change based on business needs

This is a hands-on position that plays a key role in ensuring that day to day retail operations run smoothly, including:

  • Providing leadership for the team in reaching store goals.
  • Taking a hands-on approach, this role will coordinate day-to-day tasks, opening and closing the store, organizing breaks, rotating and merchandising stock and playing a key role in helping to ensure that the store meets performance goals.
  • Providing leadership in excellent customer service; greeting customers; promoting the store, making recommendations; helping customers to locate the right merchandise; and dealing with issues as they arise.
  • Able to deal with challenging customer service situations calmly and respectfully, and comfortable de-escalating conflict
  • Experience working with people with addiction and mental health issues in an empowering and non-judgmental way
  • Coordinates coverage in coordination with supervisor as needed
  • Building and maintaining a positive, empowering and cooperative team working environment,
  • Processing sales transactions and reconciling store transactions using a POS system, opening and closing the till and supporting team with POS issues as needed.
  • Merchandising and displaying product items according to merchandising principles and procedures throughout the store.
  • Promoting the store and current sales.
  • Providing information regarding WIN and its programs.
  • Responsible for supervising the location and ensuring their supervisor is kept informed of issues as needed.
  • Providing orientation and training to new staff and volunteers.
  • Assisting in implementing changes to the store layout and promotions as agreed.
  • Ensuring that all store duties are complete at the end of each day, and that the store is set up for the next day, including stock rotation, and maintaining a clean and orderly store.
  • Ensuring all WIN policies and procedures are carried out effectively.
  • Maintaining high standards and expectations.

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Must have a minimum of 2 years' retail experience with some experience as either a keyholder, person in charge or assistant manager or leadership role.
  • Resourceful, positive attitude and an excellent communicator.
  • Excellent customer service skills, able to answer questions in a friendly and positive manner as well as work towards positive solutions.
  • Experience working with people with addiction and mental health issues in an empowering and non-judgmental way
  • A good knowledge of second-hand items including clothing, household goods and furniture would be considered an asset
  • Well-organized with a good attention to detail, and a good sense of how to merchandize stock effectively.
  • Knows about and values the work that WIN does in the community – must have an understanding of what WIN is all about.
  • Ability to communicate respectfully, both verbally and written,
  • Able to build empowering relationships with customers, donors and Program Participants that reflect WIN's values and vision,
  • Able to work autonomously, and use judgment, initiative and critical thinking skills in problem solving and communication on a case-by-case basis,
  • Accurate and dependable in working with cash / point of sale system including cash in / cash out.
  • Able to work independently and as part of a team, including supervising and leading the team.
  • Previous experience working in security or similar fields would be an asset
  • Good knowledge of quality standards for second-hand goods.
  • Comfortable maintaining ongoing communication with supervisor.
