This posting is for one (1) Spring 2026 Student Co-Op position . All civilian competitions include the possibility of extension and/or additional temporary or permanent positions.
Salary Information: $65, $76,761.37 annually rates of pay)
It is expected that the competition components will be held during the month of November 2025.

*Overall Purpose*
- Reporting to the Team Lead OIAU, the CIA Co-Op Student will work on research projects to supports community safety and well-being in Ottawa, including performing advanced crime analysis and creating intelligence products to assist in crime investigation and strategic initiatives based on geographic locations, temporal analysis, and modus operandi (MO).
*Major Responsibilities
Crime Data Collection And Analysis Responsibilities Include*
- Assist Crime Analysts with ad-hoc strategic projects and requests by liaising with internal sections and external agencies to identify crime analytical requirements.
- Perform data entry, data cleaning, transformation, and quality control to ensure data accuracy and reliability.
- Collect crime data and statistics from various sources and apply analytical techniques to identify and interpret crime trends by using qualitative and quantitative methodologies.
- Undertake in-depth analysis and exploratory analysis appropriate to organizational need to uncover new areas of development and make recommendations as required.

Reporting And Visualization Responsibilities Include*
- Prepare maps, graphs, tables, and other illustrative products for visual presentation of data using ArcGIS, i2 Analyst Notebook and PowerBI.
Documentation And Communication Responsibilities Include
- Author technical documentation, analytical templates, and training material.
- Provide training to clients to use analytical products, coordinate with the clients to gather their feedback, and make recommendations to improve.

Statement Of Required Qualifications
Education And Experience
- Enrollment in and good standing with a bachelor's or master's degree program at a university within any of the following disciplines: Criminology, Data Science, Social Science, Geography, Geomatics, Public Safety, or a related discipline.
- Classroom or other experience in report writing and crime analytics tools, including but not limited to: Excel, ArcGIS, I2 Analyst Notebook and PowerBI.
