Furry Tails Toronto is hiring a Leader of the Pack Walker
We are looking for a dedicated, responsible, mature and compassionate person who isn't afraid of city driving or tough work.
While spending your days with dogs can be truly rewarding, this position can be demanding and oftentimes challenging. You must be prepared to get your hands dirty, and be comfortable outside in the rain, sleet, snow, cold and heat. This position is perfect for someone who is done with the corporate world, semi-retired, or who is just an all around true dog (and all aspects of nature) lover
JOB DUTIES:
The Leader of the Pack Walker performs a wide range of functions for pet owners who may be at work and need someone to look after their pets.
Job duties include driving to the client's home, loading the dog into the car and taking them out for a walk/run during scheduled times. The Leader of the Pack Walker will complete a daily log of animal behavior and any other noteworthy happenings during the visit. In addition, the Leader of the Pack Walker may be called upon to do initial "Meet and Greets" with potential clients.
SKILLS/QUALITIES:
While a love of dogs ranks among the top qualities needed to be successful as the Leader of the Pack Walker, additional skills are necessary.
Working with clients requires excellent customer service skills and the ability to empathize with pet owners is essential. The job also requires high attention to detail, patience and kindness when dealing with pets. In addition, The Leader of the Pack Walker must be able to meet the mental and physical demands of the position, such as driving, walking, lifting, pulling and throwing (sticks and balls, that is).
RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES:
Pick up dogs in your vehicle, drive to the beach/park/trail. Walk 1-2 groups/day of 2 to 6 dogs at one time in an off-leash dog park, at the off-leash dog beach or on the designated off-leash/on-leash trail. Interact with clients in a professional and friendly manner. Monitor dog safety, sociability and health. Update owners using our online status reporting system. Collaborate with the office staff to plan schedule and daily route.
PAY/HOURS:
The ideal candidate is available during 9 am-5 pm, Mondays through Fridays. Pay is variable and depends on how many dog walking clients are booked on each walk/day. Pay is based on a fixed rate, per service/per dog. Hours start at a minimum of 3 hours/week to a maximum of 15 hours/week (1 walk/round per day @ up to 3 hours per round trip) or up to 30 hours per week (2 walk/rounds per day @ up to 3 hours each, total 6 hours/day); as our roster fills up with more clients over time.
