Job Title: Senior Database Administrator

Location: Edmonton, AB (Hybrid/Remote)

Duration: 6+ Months Contract (With the possibility of extension)

Working Hours: 08:15 – 16:30 Alberta time, Monday – Friday

Work Arrangement: Primarily Remote (Must be based in Canada)

Job Overview

The Database Administration team is executing several large-scale modernization projects aimed at optimizing database operations and reducing long-term SQL Server licensing costs across the client space.

Key Initiatives Include:

· Consolidation and optimization of SQL Server licensing.

· Implementing database monitoring across client systems.

· Developing reporting tools to elevate database health and performance metrics for leadership.

Responsibilities:

· Build, maintain, and tune production databases to ensure high availability and performance.

· Create and manage logical and physical database structures.

· Install, upgrade, and patch DBMS software and applications.

· Maintain security and authorization standards across databases.

· Provide technical support to developers, AMS, and business teams.

· Troubleshoot database and application performance issues.

· Develop and automate system processes, including job scheduling and capacity planning.

· Prepare and test disaster recovery procedures.

· Document standards, procedures, and technical configurations.

Qualifications:

Mandatory Requirements

  • Experience as a Database Administrator in large, complex government or enterprise environments - 8 years
  • Technical knowledge and hands-on experience with Microsoft SQL Server - 2 years
  • Experience as a SQL Infrastructure DBA (backups, replication, installation, configuration) - 4 years
  • Experience working with SQL Server 2016 or higher - 8 years
  • Experience with Power BI, Power View, SQL Reporting, and Analytical Services - 4 years
  • Experience configuring and maintaining SQL Server High Availability Groups - 4 years
  • Experience querying data using Microsoft Transact-SQL (T-SQL) - 6 years

Nice-to-Have Experience

  • Experience with Amazon Web Services (AWS) databases - 1 year
  • Experience with Azure SQL - 1 year
  • Experience migrating on-premise databases to Azure or AWS - 1 year
  • Experience with open-source databases such as PostgreSQL, MySQL, MariaDB, or Cosmos DB - 1 year
  • Experience using Power BI to query Azure SQL - 1 year
  • Experience with SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) - 1 year
  • Experience with SQL Server replication - 4 years
  • Experience troubleshooting performance issues in SQL Server 2016 or higher - 2 years
  • Experience working in ticket or email-based support environments - 4 years
  • Experience working in secured multi-tenancy environments (e.g., no direct developer access to UAT/Production) - 4 years
  • Experience working with Oracle 19c or higher - 1 year

Job Type: Fixed term contract

Contract length: 6 months

Pay: $70.00-$80.00 per hour

Expected hours: 36.25 per week
