Position Overview

We're seeking an Intermediate Mechanical Engineer to support the design and development of industrial machinery and equipment.

This is a hands-on role with a mix of concept design, detailed modeling, drafting, engineering analysis, and client collaboration.

Because Blue Heron is a small company, the successful candidate must be comfortable moving quickly, learning independently, and taking initiative in a variety of technical and project-related tasks.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and develop mechanical systems and equipment for heavy-industry applications
  • Create detailed 3D models and fabrication drawings using SolidWorks
  • Perform calculations including power, torque, energy, and stress analysis
  • Conduct structural and fatigue assessments using SolidWorks Simulation
  • Select materials, components, and manufacturing methods suited for industrial environments
  • Collaborate with clients, vendors, and fabricators to refine designs and resolve issues
  • Conduct site visits for measurement, inspection, and commissioning support
  • Prepare documentation packages including shop drawings, BOMs, and technical reports

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering
  • P.Eng. designation (or eligibility for registration in Canada)
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, fits, and tolerances
  • Proficiency in SolidWorks and SolidWorks Simulation
  • Skilled in Excel for calculations, data analysis, and documentation
  • Experience designing fabricated structures using stock materials
  • Willingness to travel for site visits and periodic in-person meetings (up to 4 weeks/year)

Preferred

  • 5–10 years of relevant experience in machinery or equipment design
  • Background in conveyor systems or other material-handling equipment
  • Strong understanding of mechanics of materials and structural analysis
  • Excitement about working in a small, fast-moving team and contributing to company growth

Compensation and Benefits
